SISTERS4LIFE -The Rosmari Pleasure Memorial 5K Walk/Run was first held on November 14, 1998 as a race to end violence in the African American community. The intent was to call attention to the loss of productive and talented African American citizens as a result of domestic/relationship violence. The loss of victims and the loss of perpetrators seemed to be an insidious problem that needed to be addressed in Memphis, Tennessee. The first memorial run which was sanctioned by the Memphis Runners and Track Club indicated a need to do more: a need to broaden the mission to "a race for life: saving lives, families and communities - one sister at a time"; a need to partner with others toward the prevention of relationship violence; a need to collaborate with others for improved delivery of educational activities toward the prevention of relationship violence; a need to supplement the current responses to survivors of relationship violence; and, a need to seek ways to connect with perpetrators at the moment of crisis. The4th Annual SISTERS4LIFE 5K WALK/RUN will be held on Saturday, November 10, 1999, 9:00 AM at the National Civil Rights Museum on Mulberry.

A CONVERSATION ON LOVE: Preventing Relationship Violence will be held each year to address the issue of violence in relationships and to form new partnerships to end relationship violence. Each forum will raise pertinent questions, seek appropriate answers, strategize for prevention of relationship violence and, offer resources and plans to build communities of love. The inaugural CONVERSATION engages faith leaders who represent the highest form of community leadership. Subsequent CONVERSATIONS will engage community stakeholders, social services agencies, survivors, perpetrators and other groups who are able to effect change toward saving lives, families and communities.

The Inaugural Date With Dad Brunch In keeping with our mission to advocate healthy relationships toward the elimination of relationship violence, AWay was pleased to host the inaugural Date With Dad, Sat., February 15, 2003 at the Litcherman Nature Center. The Date with Dad Brunch was an overwhelming, soldout success hosting over 80 fathers and their daughters ages 2-52. The day's events included special music, dramatic presentations and the dynamic keynote speaker, radio personality Michael Adrian Davis of 95.7Gospel Music . This first time event helped to honor and highlight fathers and the daughters they raise into womanhood. We are pleased at the success of this first time event, and anticipate an even larger response to next years Date with Dad Tea Party, 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 15, 2004! Stay tuned or give us a call for more details!
