Chapter One

"Augh!!!" Allison yelled out of frustration as she ripped her algebra homework out of her notebook and threw it into her wastebasket that was mounted on the back of her door. After an hour of trying her word problems over and over, she was ready to give up. However, that would put her average below a "C" for the six weeks, which would kick her off of the basketball team.

She threw her notebook and text book into her backpack, and put on her tennis shoes, figuring that she could use some time away from it. She grabbed her keys and drove to the local gym in her '97 Toyota Camry with the windows rolled down and her radio blaring.

She warmed up and worked on her lay ups, short shots, free throws and then three point shots. She went over to get a drink of water with sweat rolling down her back when three guys came in. She nearly spit out her water when she recognized the guys to be Nick Carter, AJ McLean, and Brian Littrell from the Backstreet Boys. Nick had his hair in braids like he had in the Disney in concert special, and since his hair was longer, she thought he looked a little like Zac Hanson.

"Did you see the look on that one girl's face?" Nick laughed.

"Oh man!" Brian laughed with his frind.

"All I did was go over and touch her," Nick continued.

"They scream if you smile at 'em," AJ added, obviously not very impressed.

"Hey," Brian said, noticing Allison.

"Hi," she smiled.

"I'm Brian, this is Ni--" he started.

Allison nodded. "I know. I'm Allison, better known as Big Al around here."

"Big Al?" Nick asked. "You're shorter than Brian. Why would they call you 'Big Al?'"

AJ rolled his eyes and slapped Nick on the back of the head. "That's the whole point, Dummy!"

"Oh...I don't get it."

Allison and Brian laughed at Nick while AJ looked at him disgusted. They gave up, and Allison put her water bottle in her backpack and headed for the door.

"Leaving already?" Brian asked her.

"Yeah. I've been here for fourty five minutes, and I have an algebra assignment to do," she explained.

"It's only six o'clock," Brian noted, looking at his watch.

"C'mon! Why don'tcha play some basketball with us?" Nick urged.

Allison pushed her concience out of the way and agreed. She figured that her asignment could wait a little longer.

"I just have one rule, though," she told them.

"And what's that?" AJ wondered.

"Brian and Nick can't be on the same team."

"What?" Nick asked. "Oh, now that's not fair."

"Yes it is. I've seen you guys play before. You click. How could anyone beat you?"

"The couldn't," Brian said proudly. "We're just too good."

"My point exactly," Allison told them. "How about Nick and me against you two?" she asked Brian and AJ.

"Works for me," AJ said.

"Woo hoo!" Allison yelled about halfway through their game. "What's the score now?" she asked Brian.

He mumbled something.

"What?" she asked. "I can't hear ya."

"Twenty-eight to seventeen," he said.

"Well, you know, it might help if you didn't throw the ball to Nick so much," Allison suggensted.

"Well, usually we're on the same team!"

"Too bad!"

AJ threw the ball in to Brian, and he drove it to the middle of the lane before throwing it back to AJ who shot from the top of the key. The ball bounced off the rim and went flying toward Nick's head. Bonk!

"Ouch!" Nick yelled while the other three were trying not to laugh.

"Out on Nick...or should I say out off Nick," Brian lughed and went after the ball.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, back to the game," Nick told them.

Brian threw the ball in to AJ this time, but Allison intercepted the pass and threw it to Nick who shot from three point land. Swish!

"Thirty-one seventeen!" Nick and Allison reminded AJ and Brian.

"Whatever happened to friendly competition?" AJ wondered.

Nick and Allison shrugged. At the end of the game, the score was forty-two to twenty-seven, in favor of (guess who) Nick and Allison.

"Hey, it's been wild, but I'd really better get going," she said. "As much as I wish it would, that algebra assignment isn't gonna work itself!"

"Alright," Brian said.

"We'll be gone tomarrow," Nick told her.

"I know. There's not much I can do about that, though, is there?" Al wondered.

"Nope, I guess not," Nick shrugged.

Brian elbowed him and put his hand to his face in a phone.

"Oh!" Nick said. "Hold on a sec, I'll write down my number for you," he said.

He got a peice of paper and scribbled down his cell number on it. She wrote down her number for him, too. Then, she left.

"What would you do without us, Nick" Brian wondered.

"I have no idea," he shrugged.
