TOM AND HUCK
Jonathan Taylor Thomas & Brad Renfro Play "True Blue Kids"

I WAS ESPECIALLY EXCITED ABOUT DOING THIS FILM," says Jonathan Taylor Thomas of his role as Tom Sawyer in Tom and Huck, based on Mark Twain's novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, one of the classic buddy stories of all time. "Tom has all the qualities that I look for in a friend. He's got leadership abilities. He can always be counted on. He loves adventure and excitement. But at the same time he has a good heart and knows right from wrong." Playing Tom Sawyer's sidekick Huck Finn is Brad Renfro (who made his silver-screen debut in "The Client.") "Tom is very willful," Renfro says, "whereas my character, Huck is a little crazy. But they're perfect together--like Laurel & Hardy." Adds Thomas, "The relationship between Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn is really extraordinary. They both depend on each other a lot. And I think the spirit of the real boy in Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn is very much alive in today's kids. And thet's why I think today's kids relate to the story. Because deep down, kids are the same no matter what era they live in. There will always be the kind of spirit that Tom and Huck represent. They're just true blue kids."

THE KIDS

Jonathan Taylor Thomas (TOM) JTT stopped being a regular on "Home Improvement", the popular ABC sitcom, after seven seasons last season. He said that he couldn't do the show anymore because he planned to focus on schoolwork. He did appear in three episodes, but, contrary to earlier thoughts that Thomas would appear in the series' final episode, he will not. It was taped on April 9 and although the crew wanted him to be in the show's last episode, Thomas never got in touch with producers. On the show, Thomas came home for Christmas. Speaking about being home for Christmas, Thomas most recently appeared in a movie, called "I'll Be Home for Christmas". The film, a comedy, was highly anticipated by his fans who no longer see him every week on "Home". His role as the Taylor's middle son Randy was significant on the show, and his absence was explained by Randy leaving for a rain forest study program in Costa Rica. Besides "Home Improvement" and "Tom and Huck", JTT has done the Disney projects, "The Lion King" and "Man of the House." In 1994, "The Lion King," Disney's highly acclaimed animated film, showcased his voice talents as he provided the voice for Young Simba, the title character as a lion cub. Then in 1995, Jonathan starred in the comedy "Man of the House" alongside Chevy Chase and Farrah Fawcett. In 1996, Thomas played the role of Pinnocchio in the live-action version "The Adventures of...Pinnocchio". One year later, in the summer, Jonathan played Martin Stoufer, one of three young brothers who go on a trip and observe the wild in "Wild America". Next for the talented young actor is the challenging role of a druggie in the independent film "Speedway Junkie" produced by Gus Van Sant (the director of "Good Will Hunting") and then a future project called "Walking Across Egypt."

Courland Mead in ABC's "The Shining" Courtland Mead (SID) has had quite a successful career launched from Tom and Huck. In addition, Mead had a role on "Brotherly Love", the short-lived NBC show with the three Lawrence brothers. Last year, Mead appeared in an episode of "Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction",an Unsolved Mysteries-type show on FOX.
