*"The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is collecting information from black bears harvested by hunters. Specifically, we would like to get an upper premolar tooth (the tooth directly behind the upper canine tooth) from harvested bears in order to dertermine the bear's age. This information is very important to our mear management program. It helps us to monitor the status of our bear population in the state. If you harvest a bear, please contact our personnel in the field so they can collect a tooth and other information we need. If you cannot locate a wildlife employee, please call the Wildlife Management Division Office at (919) 733-7291 and we will send information to you on how to collect the tooth.

If you provide a tooth, we will mail the age of the bear you harvested prior to the next hunting season. Your cooperation is appreciated." 1999-2000 North Carolina Regulations Digest, page 35.
