History of EVS

The Evangelistic Singers has a strong tradition of traditional and contemporary black gospel music. The choir has built a solid reputation of combining excellence in choral singing with dynamic and powerful ministry. Made up of students from all areas of campus life, it is a diverse group of students from all over the United States and around the world.

The initial vision of the Evangelistic Singers is being manifested through the anointing under God's providential care. In 1968 Sam Ellis saw the need for evangelism and had a burden for saving souls for the kingdom of Christ. Sam Ellis along with a handful of other Lee college students and through many hours of fasting and prayer started a preaching team. This small group of Evangelists witnessed and preached the gospel at every opportunity God gave. Along with the preaching ministry emerged a vibrant singing ministry, and in 1969 Sam Ellis, Quan Miller, Pat Miller, Molly Edmond, Pauline Washington, and Hazel Edwards-Ivy were instrumental in organizing the Evangelistic Singers. The emphasis was the same as the preaching team - allowing God's Power to break every yoke with His anointing. Through many hardships, trials, mountains, and valleys the Evangelistic Singers have grown from a handful of preachers to a University ministering choir spreading the gospel all over the world through music, drama, and preaching.

Under the direction of Sandy Garren, the Evangelistic Singers continues to minister abroad as they have performed extensively throughout the Bahamas, Bermuda, Virgin Islands, Canada, Caribbean, and the entire Northeastern United States. They perform with an energy and excitement that is contagious to audiences everywhere.
