"The Way Of God They Know"

Shiloh, in Ephraim

Means:[Rest]

The Tabernacle of the Congregation and the Ark of the Covenant are still at Shiloh. Shiloh a town in the land of Ephraim about two [2] or three [3] miles east of the main road, becomes the centeral location for the Tabernacle of the Congregation and the Ark of the Covenant of God. And it came to pass in those days when there was no king in Israel that there was a certian Levite sojourning on the side of Mount Ephraim who took to him a concubine out of Beth-le-hem-ju-dah. His concubine played the whore against him..........and because of the wickedness of the sons of Belial. The tribe of Benjamin is almost wiped out. Belial,[means: wickedness or ungodliness]; Belial, was a Benjaminite; [Judges chapters 19-21].

There was destroyed, the first day one-hundred and twenty-five thousand [125,000]; there was twenty-five thousand [25,000] that drew the sword killed. There remained only six hundred [600] men, when the men of Israel turned again and smote the children of Benjamin, they smote men of every city, the beast, and all that came to hand: All of the cities were set on fire [JUDGES 19:20-21].
In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which seemed right in his own eyes.

It is estimated to be about three-hundred and fifty -six [356] years, from the period of Joshua and the Judges.

*SAMUEL*

Means:[Heard of God]

The Last Judge that was also a Prophet over Israel

The last judge that was also a prophet, over Israel, that God raised; up to judge His people Israel, was Samuel.
Samuel, was born to El-ka-nah and Hannah, who were from Mount Ephraim. El-ka-nah and Hannah went up to Shiloh out of their city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the Lord of host.

The Tabernacle of the Congregation and the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel was still at Shiloh in the land of Ephraim.
Eli and his sons were priests. Eli, was the high priest, his sons Hophni, and Phinehas, were priest also.

It was here at Shiloh, at the house of God; that Hannah, vowed a vow, and said, O, Lord of host; if thou wilt indeed look on my affictions of thine hand-maid, and remember me; and not forget thine hand-maid, but wilt give unto me a man child; then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life [ISamuel 1:1-11]. The Lord visited Hannah, so she conceived, and bare two [2] daughters; and three [3] sons. The child Samuel grew before the Lord; and was in favor both with the Lord and man.
Samuel minister unto the Lord before Eli: The word of the Lord was precious in those days; there were no open visions. The Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I....... All Israel from Dan even to Beer-sheba knew Samuel was established to be a great prophet of the Lord. The Lord appeared again in Shiloh: for the Lord revealed Himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord [1 Samuel 3:1-21 ].

Samuel became the last judge and prophet over Israel. The word of God came to all Israel through Samuel.

As time went on the Philistines came against Israel, so Israel went out to battle.
The Philistines camped at Aphek not far from Mipeh and Shen; the Israelites encamped at Mipeh and Shen, which later was named Eben-ezer [stone of help]. When Israel seen the battle was against them the elders said, Lets fetch the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord out of Shiloh unto us; it may save us out of the hands of our enemies. So they sent to Shiloh; that they may bring the Ark of the God Of Israel into the camp, where the Israelities were encamped against the Philistines, when the Philistines heard the noise of the shouts, they said; what meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? They understood that the Ark of the God of Israel was come into the camp. They said, Woe unto us ! for there hath not been such a thing here to after. Woe! unto us who shall deliver us out of the hands of these mighty Gods? These are the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness.
Be strong and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quite yourselves like men and fight.......The Philistines fought against Israel that day and Israel was smitten; and they fled every man into his tent.....there was a very great slaughter for there fell of Israel thirty-thousand [30,000] footmen.
The Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel was taken by the Philistines. The two sons of Eli; Hophni and Phinehas were slained [1 Samuel 2:1-36;4:1-22].

A man of Benjamin ran out of the army and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes rent, and with earth upon his head: And told all that had happened; they cried out: When Eli had heard the noise of the crying, he said. What meaneth the noise of this tumult? the man answered Sli and said; Israel is fled before the Philistines; and there hath been a great slaughter among the people, thy sons are dead and the Ark of the God is taken. As soon as the man mentioned the Ark of the God of Israel; Eli fell backwards off his seat by the side of the gate, and his neck brake; and he died for he was old and heavy [ISamuel 4:1-22].

Eli judged Israel forty [40] yeras, his daughter-in law, Phinehas' wife was with child near to be delivered, when she heard the tidings that the Ark of the God of Israel was taken and her husband and father- in law were dead; her pains came upon her; she gave birth to a son. She named him Ichabod; because the glory of God is departed from Israel...... for the Ark of God is taken; Phinehas' wife died giving birth to Ichabod and the glory of God departed from Israel that day [1 Samuel 4:1-22].

God was wroth and greatly abhored Israel for their evil ways. They provoked Him to anger with their high places, and moved Him to jealousy, with their graven images in so much; that He forsok the Tabernacle of the Congregation of Shiloh, the tent which He had placed among them. More over He cast out the whole seed of Ephraim and refused the Tabernacle of Joseph, and chose the tribe of Judah, the Mount Zion which He loved for His dwelling place of worship [Psalms 78:60-68; Jeremiah 7:12-14;Jeremiah 26:1-11].

The Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel never returned to Shiloh again. The Tabernacle of the Congregation and the Ark of the Covenant of God; remained seperated until Solomon finished building the Temple [11 Chronicles 1:3]. The glory of the Lord was removed from the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

*Nob* city of Benjamin

Means : high place

A Levitical city in the land of Benjamin

The Tabernacle of the Congregation was translated from Shiloh to the city of Nob after the battle between the Philistins and Israel. The Ark of the Covenant of God of Israel was taken by the Philistins. Eli and his sons are dead; the glory of God is departed from Israel [1 Samuel 4:1-22]. We know the Tabernacle of the Congregation, is at Nob because David went there after Jonathan, had cried out to him [David], Make speed; haste, stay not :......He went to Nob, and Ahimelech, the priest gave David the shewbread to eat and the sword of Goliath [1Samuel chapter 21;1Samuel 20:38;1Samuel 21:1-10]. We read the next time where the Tabernacle of the Congregation is at Gibeon, in the land of Benjamin; where it is refered to as the " The Great High Place". This is where Solomon went and God gave him what he desired for the people [11Chronicles 1:1-7]. The Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel was in the hands of the Philistianes

*Ashod*

Cheif City of Philistines

Ashod Means: Stronghold

The Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel is in the hands of the Philistines. They take the Ark of the Conenant of the God of Israel; to their cheif city, Ashod; where their fish-god -Dagon,is. Therein they place the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel, right beside Dagon [1 Samuel 5:1-8]. The next day they found Dagon fallen upon his face to the earth before the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel. They placed Dagon back in his place; the next day they found Dagon fallen upon his face to the ground before the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel; his head and both his palms of his hands were cut off, only the stump of Dagon was left [1 Samuel 5:1-12].
The Philistines decided to send the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel to another of their cheif cities. As they were carryiny, the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel; to Gath, the hand of the Lord; was against the city with a very great destruction, for He; [God] smote the men of the city, both small and great; with emrods, in their secert parts. They left Gath, and sent the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel; to Ekron, which was the northern, most of their cheif cities. As the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel approached, the city of Ekron the Ekronites, cried out saying; they have brought about the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.......The Philistines, sent and grathered togather the five [5] lords of the Philistines; and said, send away the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Isreal, and let it go again to his own place; that it slay us not. For there was, a deadly destruction; through out all the city, for the hand of the Lord; was very heavy.

The Philistines, called for the priest and diviners; saying, What should we do with the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel? tell us, where with; we should, send it: send it to his place, they replied, but send it not away empty; but in any wise return him a trespass offering: Then ye shall be healed and know why his hand is not removed from you [1 Samuel chapters 5 ; 6; 7 ].
The Philistines made five [5] golden emrods and five [5] golden mice according to the number of the lords of the Philistines. They made a new cart, took two [2] milck kine [calves] from their young; which hath come no yoke and tied the kine [calves] to the cart. They took their calves home from them, they placed the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel on the new cart; they put their trespass offerings in a coffer by it: and sent it away; that it may go to his own place. If it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Beth-shemesh, if so then God hath done us this great evil. the kine [calves] took the straight way to the way of Beth-shemesh, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right or the left. The Ark of the Covenant came to rest by the great stone of Abel, in the field of Joshua, the The Levities set the Ark of God and the jewels of gold on the great stone. They took the kine [calves] and offered them as a burnt offering unto the Lord, and sacrificed; sacrifices the same day. The five [5] lords of the Philistines, stayed and watched, to see what would take place; afterwards they returned again to Ekron the same day [1 Samuel 6:1-16]. The Beth-shemites looked into the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel. God smote the men, even fifty thousand [50,000] and three-score and ten: the people lamented because the Lord had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter [1 Samuel 6:19-20]. The men of Beth-shemesh cried out saying who is able to stand before this holy God? And to whom shall he go up from us? They sent messagers to the inhabitants of Kirjath-jearim saying the Philistines have brought back the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel, come ye down and fetch it up to you [1 Samuel 6:20-21].

The Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel was in the hands of the Philistines for seven [7] months [1Samuel 6:1].

Kirjath-jearim

Kirjath-jearim Means: "City of Forests"

A city of the tribe of Judah

"Kirjath-jearim, a city of the tribe of Judah [Joshua 18:14], morden Deir al'Azhar about eight [8] and a quarter miles north of Jerusalem and just west of Abu Ghost. It carried the earlier name "Kiriath-baal," meaning "city of the god of Baal"[Joshua 15-60]

The men of Kirjath-jearim came down and took the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel and placed it in the house of Abinadad in the hill. Abinadad took his son Eleazer and sancified him to keep the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel [1 Samuel 7:1].

Samuel

Jirjath-jearim

The last prophet and judge over the Children of Israel that God raised up was Samuel Samuel did that which was right in the sight of Lord For he had the Children of Israel to put away Baalim and Asharoth and serve the Lord only. The people put away their idols and gather together at Mizpeh, where they drew water and poured it out before the Lord, and fasted on that day, and said we have sinned against the Lord. When the Philistines heard that the Children of Israel was gather togather at Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines came against Israel. The Children of Israel creid unto Samuel, cease not to cry unto the Lord our God for us, that He will save us out of the hands of the Philistines. Samuel took a sucking lamb and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the Lord [1Samuel 7:3-17 ].
Samuel cried unto the Lord for Israel and the Lord heard; the Philistines came against Israel, the Lord thunder with a great thunder that day. The Philistines were confused and smitten before Isreal. The Children of Israel pursed from Mizpeh after them until they came under Beth-car. Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called it Eben-ezer, saying hitherto hath the Lord helphed us. The cities that the Philistines had taken were returned back to Israel from Ekron even unto Gath: and the coast.
Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life. His house was in Ramah in the land of Benjamin. He went from year to year in a circurit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpheh judging Israel. Samuel built an alter at Ramah, where he offered sancifices unto the Lord [1Samuel 7:3-17].It came to pass as Samuel was old he made his sons judges over Israel. They walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre and took brides and perverted judgments. The elders came to Samuel at Ramah; and said make us a king to judge us, that we may be like other nations.

Samuel was very displeased with them; but God, said unto him hearken unto the voice of the people. Show them the manner of the king to judge and reign over them. So Samuel told the people all the things the Lord said about having a king over them. The people refused to obey the voice of Samuel: And said,Nay; but we will have a king over us [1Smuel 8:1-22]. Samuel anionts the people's choice of a king [1Samuel 8:18].

1st.King Saul

Saul, the son of a Benjaminte, was anointed king over Israel, after Samuel had anointed Saul; the spirit of the Lord came upon him and he was turned into another man.

Saul lived in Gibeah, a city in the mountian district of Judah. He reigned over Israel for fourty [40] years.During that time the Children of Israel did not inquire after the Ark of the God of Israel [1Chor.13:1-4].

Saul, takes the role of the priests upon himself and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altars of the Lord. Samuel, told Saul; thou hast done foolishly: Thou hast not kept the commandments of the Lord thy God; which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. But now thy kingdom shall not continue:the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart;and the Lord hath commanded him to be captian over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee [1Samuel 9:1;1 Samuel 10:1-12;1Chron.13:1-4;1Samuel 13:8-4].

Samuel anoints David, who lived with his father Jesse, and his brethern in Bethlehem; as God's chosen one to be king over Israel. Saul was still king at the time; David was anointed by Samuel to be king over Israel. As the evil spirit came to trouble Saul, that God had allowed to trouble him, they would send for David, who was a cunning player on an harp. As soon as David started playing Saul would be refreshed and well [11Samuel 5:17-25].
As the fame of David went out into all the lands;the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations [1Chron.14:1-17;1 Samuel 16:1-23]. Saul seen and knew that the lord was with David: and Saul became David's enemy continually.
Jonathan,Sauls son was a good friend of David; they loved one an other very much. When Jonathan realized his father,Saul, meant to kill David;Jonathan, went and made it known to David; that he should go in peace.David escaped from Saul's messagers, and went to Samuel at Ramah and told him all that Saul had done unto him. So Samuel, and David dwelt in Naioth in Ramah. As soon as Saul found out where David was he sent messagers to take David.
Twice Saul sent messagers to take David, but the spirit of the Lord was upon them and they prophesied. The third time Saul sent out messagers and they also prophesied too.

So Saul went to Ramah, himself,as he came to a great well that is in Sechu; he inquired as to where Samuel and David were. Behold they are at Naioth in Ramah. As he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: the spirit of the Lord God was upon him and he also went on and prophesied until he came to Ramah. He stripped off his clothes and prophesied before Samuel in like manner.....
David fled from Naioth in Ramah....and before Jonathan, they made a covenant with each other, and Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David. Jonathan, asked leave for David to go to Beth-lehem. Saul was angry at David's request, and threw a javelin at him to smite him; so Jonathan knew that his father was determined to slay David.

The prophet of God, told David, not to abide in the hold;depart and go into the land of Judah. So David came into the forest of Hareth which is located in Judah [1 Sam.22:5]. When Saul had discovered where David was and the men that were with him,he told his servants that stood about him, will the son of Jesse give everyone of you fields, vineyards and make ye captians of thousands?.....All of ye have conspired against me....Then, Doeg the Edomite, which was at Nob, when David the son of Jesse came to Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub to inquire of the Lord, told Saul, what had happen, that Ahemelech; gave David victuals and the sword of Goliath the Philistine. Saul, called for Ahimelech , and all his fathers house; and the priest that were at Nob to come to him; for he wanted to know why Ahimelech had conspired against him. After Ahimelech had replied to the king all that he had done; Saul said thou shalt surely die and all of thy father's house. Saul ordered the footmen to turn and slay the priests of the Lord. The footmen would not put forth their hand. Saul then said to Doeg; to turn and fall upon the priests . Doeg slew that day forty-five[45] persons wearing a linen ephod, the city of Nob; where the priests reside, men, women, children, sucklings; oxen, asses, and sheep were slain too.
Abiathar, the son of Ahimelech escaped Saul's sword and fled to David and told him all that Saul had done. David told Abiathar to abide with him where he would be safe[1Sam. 22:20-23].

Samuel The Last Prophet and Judge Dies.

Samuel, the last prophet and judge of Israel dies. The Philistines comes against Israel and Saul is afriad, when he inquired of the Lord, the Lord answered him not: Saul seeks a woman with a familiar spirit, when Saul perceived that it was Samuel, whom the witch of Endor had brought up, Saul inquired as what to do about the Philistines.
Samuel tells Saul that tomorrow thou and thy sons shall be with me: and the Lord shall deliver the host of Israel into the hands of the Philistines. The Philistines comes against Israel, the men fled from before them and fell down slain in Mount Giboa. The battle was sore against Saul and his sons. Jonathan,Abinadab,Melchishua and Saul's amour-bearer with all his men were slain. The Philistines came and stripped the slain, they found Saul and his three sons dead [1Sam.25:1;1Sam.28:1-25;1Sam.31:1-9].

2nd.King of Israel

King David

David Means: Beloved

With Saul's death, David has the right to set upon the throne as king of Israel. The Lord gives David the victory over the Philistines [11Sam.5:1-25]. David reigned in Hebron of Judah for seven [7] year as Israel's king. Then David and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: the inhabitants did not believe David could take the land. Nevertheless, David took the strong of Zion: The same is the City of David. King David grew great and the host of the Lord God was with him [11Sam.5:6-11].
After Kimg David captured Jerusalem, he named it the City of David. He made him houses in the City of David, he pitched a tent for the Ark of God. After this he gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, with all the people and rose up to bring the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel to Jerusalem. They went to Kirjath-jearim of Judah to bring up from thence the Ark of God of Israel [Joshua 15:9;1Chr.13:6].
In Kirjath-jearim of Judah, they made a new cart to put the Ark of God on. They brought the Ark of God out of the house of Abinadad, that lived in Gibeah of Judah. Uzzah and Ahio, Abinadad's sons were accompanying the Ark of God, with Ahio, Abinadad's son, before the Ark of God. David and all the house of Israel played before the Lord on all manner of instruments..... When they came to Nachon's threshingfloor Uzzah, the son of Abinadad put forth his hand to the Ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. the Lord's anger was kindled against Uzzah: and God smote him there for his error; and there he died; by the Ark of the God of Israel. David was displeased, and afriad of the Lord that day...... So the Ark of the God of Israel was not removed into the City of David, but carried aside into the house of Obededom the Gittie.

During this time the Ark of the Covenant of the God of Israel and the Tabernacle of the Congregation; were still seperated; the Tabernacle of the Congregation was still at Nob a city in the land of Benjamin near Jersualem.
