Custom Star Trek Action Figures

PLEASE REMEMBER that most pictures link to larger versions!
Thanks!
This was one of my first and most important jobs! I NEEDED the entire crew in their movie uniforms, and I was NOT going to have them without articulation (even though with it, their hips are still hindered by their jackets). I spent a long time getting what I consider to be the best arms for each figure. I also chose the legs carefully as correct height and a good stance is important to me. Spock is the weakest of the bunch IMO (I am mighty happy with all the rest), though I did use TMP Spock head to keep
continuity. I would like to thank David Laurente for the inspiration. Hey, David, you may not remember me, but thanks. Kirk and Spock use the Generations Kirk body, trimmed down. More so for Spock. The other men, excluding Scotty, use a Generations Chekov body. This was back when the were more expensive to come by. I am still paying these off. ;o)
As far as Scotty goes...he is drunk. Or too big to fit on the row with the others. Take your pick.
Below is a work in progress picture of the above. Scotty was drunk then too, but I cut and pasted him to a spot beside Uhura (both of whom I moved to the bottom row).
This picture is my second version of the Movie Uhura, and she turned out much better than my original. She was on an ebay auction at the end of November. Next to her is my second Movie era Sulu. He was on ebay last November as well.
This is a picture of my second Scotty and my Second McCoy I made in this style. Scotty is of course articulated in the arms and legs. And fertile from what I've heard on the news.
This is my custom Janice Rand from Star Trek 6. She is obviously a thinner than she was in the movie, but I think she turned out well. I made her for a certain Admiral on a certain mailing list called Playtrek.
This is my custom Combat Kirk from Star Trek 5. Actually, it is not mine anymore as I have sold it. "The Cage" Spock has taken on the same fate. This was my first attempt at fashioning a custom costume for a figure. It turned out pretty good, though I have learned one HECK OF A LOT doing it. Oh, and the custom accessory (seen below) was fun. Also pictured is my Custom Nine inch Playmates Spock from "The Cage" pilot. The third figure is my Custom Mego Sulu, incorporating the playmates stand, which I though looked cheezy enough for the Megos.
Here is the Laser Pistol I have created to go with Spock. As soon as I can make a copy, I will have one for my Capt. Pike. Next to him is a small pic of the Combat Kirk with his own custom Combat style phaser.
BTW, Tyler H. Dobson....I promise I have not forgotten about you. I have had a LOT of trouble finding the correct product to make the molds. I will provide you with more than I promised due to the delay, which is entirely my fault.
Here is my crew in the nine inch form sporting their environmental suits. That's a lot of silver! I have a confession to make as well. As I did not have a spare female body, Uhura's head is currently on the body of a Famous Covers female by Toy biz.
I am particularly proud of this one. The Chekov "head swap" is a given, but one day it just hit me how to
make this commander Decker from Star Trek: The Motion Picture. I made this figure about 3 or 4 years
ago. Probably about 3. As far as Chekov goes...notice he has a weird knee, given to him by the one and
only Playmates Toys. Also as far as our resident Russian goes, I tried to take a few years off of his face
so he would look more like he did in TMP. I probably should have made his hair bushier. Maybe I'll do
that soon.
The picture next to them is my (nearly finsihed) Custom Gary Mitchell from "Where No Man Has Gone
Before". I used a Pike body, painted to match the Scotty from the same episode. I wanted the Pike
body, because it differed from Scotty, Sulu, Kirk, and my custom Spock from the same episode (Spock
utilized another Kirk from the Galileo set). I actually do not like this body, arms or legs of Pike, but it is
too late now! The face still needs something, and in fact he is put away in a box as I try to reshape a bit
of the mouth. Maybe he needs different color skin or a five o'clock shadow. For the record, this looks
much better in person. Oh, and it's hard to tell, but his eyes have foil irises.
Here
is Ilia from Star Trek: The Motion Picture. I have made two or three of
these for customers and have always been happy with her. My own version is
too dark, but the one above is much m ore correct in color. I matched her
so that she would blend in well on display with Spock and McCoy (not to mention
my Decker). Though Scotty
is the only custom here in this picture, I wanted to go ahead and show
him. I am currently making another one of these figures with a Kilt
instead of pants, because that seems to be the preferred version. When
making the kilt version, I MAY update my own version. Additionally, I have
been told that when Scotty wore the kilt he had his other hairstyle (the swooped
back version). If this turns out to be true, I will change his head
accordingly. Scotty was
made with an altered Spock Torso, but given the proper height for the character.
(He is standing a little farther back in the picture) Here are the
above figures with a few from The Motion Picture. Five good men
going to their deaths. These three
figures sold on eBay. They are a better version of my above security team,
especially in terms of color. Khan and
his beloved wife to be. His chick. His main squeeze. His bed
warmer. Whatever. Finally,
here is the Deanna Troi I am making for someone on the Playtrek mailing
list. She is obviously not finished, but is turning out really well, with
the correct collar and smooth front of skirt. After a bit of debate, it
was decided to match her color to the teal-green that the 6th season Troi has
(as well as other Science figures). We came close to using blue, as some
of the photos appear to show her. As
far as her construction goes, I needed to fill in the sides of her ribcage due
to the body not being combatable with the Chapel legs I used. I had to
create her neck from scratch. The Chapel lower
body I used required me to raise up her boots and grind down the front of her
skirt. To do
this, she asked me for dinner and a movie first. General
Martok.
