Native to Tatooine, the dewback is a large, strong four-legged reptile often found in truly harsh wastelands. Dewbacks can find sustenance in the most barren of areas, surviving on unlikely food like moss that they scrape off overturned rocks with their powerful fore-legs. Although it prefers to lead a solitary life, the dewback can be tamed. Since they fear very few predators, most dewbacks die of old age, and their typical lifespan can reach several decades. Capable of withstanding extreme heat, and protected from Tatooine's frequent sandstorms by its scaled hide, the dewback is more reliable than many mechanized vehicles. Certain moisture farmers use dewbacks as beasts of burden, while local authorities and gangsters' henchmen rely on them for short- and medium-range patrols.
