Lleyton has parted company with long time coach Darren Cahill and will now be coached by Jason Stoltenberg

In the semi final Lleyton defeated Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-4 6-3
In the final Lleyton defeated Sebastian Grosjean 6-3 6-3 6-4 to win The Masters.  What an achievement!!

 

PARIS OPEN

STOCKHOLM

Lleyton pulled out of the Stockholm Open with a back injury.  Lots of positive healing vibes to Lleyton.

In the second round Lleyton was defeated by Arazi 1-6 4-6.  Lleyton seemed to have a problem with one of his eyes, let's hope it won't be a problem.

In the first round Lleyton had a bye.

In the third round Lleyton defeated Byron Black 6-3 6-2 and then because of rain delays the previous day Lleyton then had to play the quarter final in which he defeated Greg Rusedski in straight sets 6-4 6-4
In the semi final Lleyton defeated Pete Sampras 3-6 6-3 6-2
In the final Lleyton defeated Tim Henman 7-6 7-6 to win Queens for the second conservative year.  CONGRATULATIONS LLEYTON!

 

THE FRENCH OPEN

*In the first round Lleyton defeated Mathieu 7-6 4-6 6-3 6-2.  


*Lleyton stormed past hapless Russian qualifier Nikolay Davydenko 6-0 6-1 6-3 in what was little  more than a training run of just 100 minutes in the second round of the French Open


*In a sad ending to what was shaping up to be the most hotly contested match of the tournament, red hot American teen Andy Roddick strained a hamstring in his left leg and was forced to retire, down 7-6(6) 4-6 2-2 to Lleyton in the third round of Roland Garros on Friday.

After playing for nearly 4 hours,  play was resumed the next day because of failing light and Lleyton went on to defeat Canas 3-5 5-7 6-2 6-3 6-3, what a gutsy effort by Lleyton in turning this around.

Juan Carlos Ferrero, Spain, def. Lleyton  6-4, 6-2,6-1 in the quarter final.  Next up Queens for Lleyton

 

WTC Dusseldorf

First up Spain and Lleyton was defeated by Alex Corretja 3-6 6-2 6-3.  In the next match Pat defeated Juan Balcells 6-3 6-2 and in the doubles Lleyton and Pat teamed to defeat Balcells/Corretja 6-4 0-6 6-3 to give Australia a 2-1 win in the first round.

Australia played Sweden in the 2nd round.  Lleyton defeated Magnus Norman 6-1 6-2, Pat defeated Enqvist 6-3 6-3 and then Wayne Arthurs/Scott Draper went on to defeat Enqvist/Kulti 7-5 7-5 in the doubles giving Australia a 3-0 win.

In the third round Australia played Germany and Kiefer defeated Pat 1-6 6-2 6-4.  Lleyton was defeated by Haas 6-7 6-3 3-6 but Pat/Wayne defeated Haas/Prinosil 6-3 6-2.  Although Germany defeated Australia 2-1 we still made it to the final as we only needed to win one match.

In the final Lleyton defeated Marat Safin 6-3 6-4 then Pat announced he wouldn't be playing due to a sore arm.  Scotty Draper took his place and was defeated by Kafelnikov 6-2 6-4.  Wayne Arthurs/Scott Draper defeated Safin/Kafelnikov 7-6 1-6 6-4 woohooooooooooooooo!!!!!

 

Hamburg Open

Lleyton defeated Arnaud di Pasquale 6-3 6-2 in the first round in Hamburg.
Lleyton defeated F. Vicente 3-6 6-2 6-4 in the second round
In the third round Lleyton defeated countryman Andrew Ilie 6-2 7-6
In the quarters Lleyton defeated Franco Squillari 6-4 6-2
In the semi final Lleyton was defeated 6-3 5-7 2-6 by Albert  Portas

Rome Open

Today Lleyton defeated B. Ulihrach 6-1 2-6 7-5 in the first round
In the second round Lleyton defeated Tommy Haas 7-5 6-3
In the third round which was played over two days Lleyton was defeated by Alex Corretja 7-6 6-4

In the doubles Lleyton teamed up with Andre Agassi reaching the third round.

 

Lleyton's next tournament will be the Rome Open commencing on 7th May, 2001.  Check out answers to questions recently put to Lleyton on the Answers page.  It has been announced that Lleyton has had a haircut and will partner Agassi in doubles in Rome to get a bit more match play before The French Open

AUSTRALIAN OPEN - Melbourne

Wow what a match for the first round.  Lleyton ended up defeating Jonas Bjorkman 7-5 4-6 2-6 6-3 6-3.
In the second round Lleyton was down 0-5 in the first set but turned it all around to go on to defeat Tommy Haas in straight sets 7-5, 7-6 (5), 6-4
In the third round Carlos Moya defeated Lleyton  4-6, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5.  A bad line upset Lleyton in the 5th set and he had words with the umpire and was given a warning which all contributed to his defeat.

Lleyton had a really tough draw in the Australian Open.  As he said it never got easier but he fought all the way.  He has a heart like Pharlap.

ADIDAS INTERNATIONAL - Sydney 

ADIDAtarts Monday 9th January, 2001
In the first round again Lleyton encountered Wayne Arthurs whom he defeated 6-7, 7-6, 6-2
In the second round Lleyton defeated Andrew Ilie 6-4, 6-1
In the quarter finals defeated Fabrice Santoro 6-4, 6-1
Lleyton is now into the finals after defeating Sebastian Grosjean 6-3, 4-6, 6-4
Yay, back to back Adidas International titles, Lleyton defeated Magnus Norman 6-4, 6-1 in the final!!

 

AAPT CHAMPIONSHIPS - Adelaide

Lleyton has taken a wildcard at the AAPT championships in Adelaide at the last minute and has refused a tantalising offer to play the Hopman Cup in place of Philippoussis, putting his hometown and his fans first.  This shows what a great guy Lleyton is, getting better all the time! 

In the first round Lleyton defeated fellow countryman Wayne Arthurs 6-4, 6-3.
In the second round Lleyton defeated German newcomer Bjorn Phau 6-7, 6-4, 6-0
Unfortunately in the quarter finals Lleyton was defeated 6-4, 0-6, 6-1 by Tommy Haas

 

DAVIS CUP FINAL - SPAIN

Lleyton has flown home to Adelaide now to spend Christmas with his family and friends.  Lleyton's next tournament may be Adelaide.  I am waiting on a 2001 schedule from Lleyton's parents which I will post as soon as I have it.

We had an awesome experience and the Aussies showed what fantastic good sports they were.  Lleyton played his heart out - what a hero!

 

LISBON - Tennis Masters Cup

Lleyton Hewitt raced to the top of the Red Group with a stunning 7-5, 6-0 win over last year's champion Pete Sampras.  "It's not an easy one to swallow," said Sampras after today's defeat. "I don't feel like I really found my game at all during the match."  Hewitt now leads the Red Group with two sets won, with Safin, who dropped a set to Corretja, in second place.

Lleyton was defeated by Safin 6-4, 6-4

In the quarters Lleyton defeated Greg Rusedski 6-4, 6-4

After a marathon 4 hour 5 set match Wayne Ferreira defeated Lleyton 7-6, 3-6, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2

 

BASEL, SWITZERLAND

In the first round Lleyton defeated qualifier Saulnier 6-2, 6-2
In the second round Lleyton defeated Vinciguerra 6-3, 7-5
In the quarters Lleyton defeated  Rusedski 7-6, 6-2
In the semi final Roger Federer defeated Lleyton 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 in front of his home crowd.

 

Lleyton's next tournament will be Basel on the 23rd October 2000.  He was due to play Vienna but pulled out with a virus.

THE OLYMPICS

In the first round Lleyton was defeated 6-3, 6-3 by his US Open doubles partner Max Mirnyi.

Lleyton has been practising with Pat Rafter every day since moving into the athletes village.  See Olympics media page.  This site will not be updated again until 24th September as I will be at the Olympics

Lleyton was defeated 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 by Fabrice Santoro in the 1st round.

DU MAURIER:

Lleyton defeated Roger Federer 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round at the Du Maurier.
Unfortunately Lleyton was defeated by Sebastian Grosjean in the second round 3-6, 6-7

DAVIS CUP:  AUSTRALIA DEFEATS BRAZIL 5-0!!

WIMBLEDON:

Lleyton and Kim Clijsters have made a great mixed doubles combination.  They have now made it to the semi finals, Go Lleyton and Kim!!

In what was a huge shock to everyone, Lleyton went out in the first round to Jan Michael Gambill 3-6, 2-6, 5-7.  As Lleyton say you always hope you won't have an off day at the big tournaments.  Now Lleyeton will be looking towards Davis Cup in Brisbane.

ROSMALEN:

As reported by Gien on the message boards, Lleyton has withdrawn from Rosmalen.  He sprained his ankle during Queens.  He uses painkillers and gets treatment.  He hope to recover soon and that he'll be able to prepare for Wimbledon.

Lleyton is seeded No. 7 for Wimbledon.  He is No. 3 in the betting behind Sampras and Agassi.

QUEENS 

LLEYTON DEFEATED PETE SAMPRAS 6-4, 6-4  AT QUEENS TODAY.  WAY TO GO LLEYTON!!!!   Now onto Rosmalen

And now Lleyton is into the final where he will meet Pete Sampras!  Lleyton defeated Pozzi 6-1, 6-4

Lleyton  is now into the semi finals after defeating Cedric Pioline 6-4, 6-4 

Lleyton defeated Goran Ivanesvic in the second round 6-4, 6-4

Lleyton defeated David Wheaton of USA 6-4, 6-4 in his first singles match.  Tonight Lleyton plays Goran Ivanisevic. 

Lleyton/Vinceguerra were defeated by Bryan/Bryan 6-7, 4-6 in their first round doubles match at Queens on Wednesday.


THE FRENCH OPEN -

Singles:

In his first round match Lleyton beat Jeff Tarango in straight sets 7-6, 7-6, 6-3 yay!  In the second round Lleyton defeated Markus Hantschk 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, a tough match.   Lleyton continued his great run by defeating Attila Savolt 6-1, 6-4, 6-0.  Lleyton went down to A. Costa 3-6, 6-4, 2-6, 4-6 but not without a fight!  Lleyton should feel very satisfied with his play in the French Open and his defeat by a clay court specialist was nothing to be ashamed of.  

Men's Doubles:

Lleyton and Pat defeated A. Clements/S. Grosjean in the first round of doubles.  Lleyton withdrew in the second round so he could concentrate more on his singles.

Mixed Doubles:

Lleyton and Kim Clijsters defeated Kotsanic/Landsberg 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the first round.

 

WTC, DUSSELDORF - Lleyton must be running his opponents ragged!  In his match againt A. Costa of Spain, Costa retired at 4-1 to Lleyton in the first set thereby giving Lleyton a scoreline of 6-1, 6-0.  Then when  Lleyton played M. Rios of Chile, Rios retired at 5-0 giving Lleyton a scoreline of 6-0, 6-0.  Next up Lleyton's was defeated by Yevgeny Kafelnikov 1-6, 2-6.  Richard Fromberg played the second singles spot and was defeated by Marat Safin.  With Pat Rafter/Sandon Stolle losing the doubles the Russians defeated Australia 3-0 and ensured that Australia could not defend last year's title in the final.  Russia had won after Safin defeated Fromberg even before the doubles were played.  Next up for Lleyton is the French Open where he plays Jeff Tarango in the first round.

HAMBURG OPEN - Lleyton defeated Mark Philippoussis in his first round match 6-4, 7-6.  Lleyton also plays doubles with Pat Rafter.  Unfortunately in the second round Lleyton was eliminated by Mariano Zabeleta 7-5, 3-6, 2-6.  Next up WTC in Dusseldorf.

THE ITALIAN OPEN:   In the first round Lleyton defeated Stefan Koubek in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.  In the second round Lleyton defeated Arnaud Di Pasquale 6-3 6-7(6) 6-4; What a tough match for Lleyton, but a great outcome!!  In the third round Lleyton defeated Thomas Enqvist 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 (another tough 3 setter) and  then in the quarters he downed Mariano Puerta 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.  In the semi final Lleyton looked slow and sluggish and lost 3-6, 0-6 to Magnus Norman.  All in all though Lleyton achieved a lot in his first week on clay and exceeded his expectations.


DAVIS CUP IN ADELAIDE 7th-9th April, 2000 - On Day 1 Lleyton won the first match against Michael Kohlman 6-1, 6-1, 6-2 with Wayne and then Pat/Mark winning their individual matches and taking Australia to a winning 3-2 lead by the end of the second day.  Both Lleyton and Wayne lost their reverse singles on the Sunday but after a huge celebration on the Saturday night it was no wonder.  Australia now meets Brazil in Brisbane for the semi final to decide who plays USA/Spain.

In the final at The Ericsson today, Pete Sampras defeated Lleyton 6-3, 3-6, 6-1   LLC - Another game try by Lleyton, but he just doesn't have quite enough fire power yet for a victory over Pete!  A goal for him to aim for!

Today Lleyton defeated Jan Michael Gambill in the Quarter final 6-4, 7-6 to reach the semi final where he will play Pete Sampras. 

Lleyton has been on a roll at The Ericsson in Miami defeating Gaston Gaudio 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 in a marathon 3 hour match followed by the defeat of Tommy Haas 6-1, 6-3 (great confidence booster for the upcoming Davis Cup tie against Germany starting on the 7th April).  The latest to go down to Lleyton was his Russian nemesis, Yevgeny Kafelnikov with Lleyton defeating him 6-4, 6-3.  Go Lleyton!!!

Lleyton was defeated by Byron Black  3-6, 7-6, in the 2nd round in Indian Wells.

Lleyton defeated Carlos Moya 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the 1st round in Indian Wells.

Lleyton defeated Tim Henman 6-4, 7-6 in Scottsdale to take out his 3rd title for the year and to take his ranking to No. 4 in the world.  Awesome!!

Lleyton has now advanced to the final where he will play Tim Henman.  Lleyton defeated Marcelo Rios in the quarter final 7-6, 3-2 as Rios retired injured.  Lleyton then went on to defeat Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-4, 6-2 in the semi finals.

Lleyton has advanced to the quarter finals at Scottsdale after defeating Daniel Vacek 6-1, 6-7, 6-2 in the first round and Chris Woodruff 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the second round.

Lleyton decided not to defend his title at Delray Beach last week.  This week he plays Scottsdale in Arizona.

On to Davis Cup where Lleyton won both his matches defeating George Bastl 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-4  and then on the third day defeating Roger Federer in an awesome match 6-2 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 6-1.   MarkP sealed the last deciding rubber taking Australia to a 3-2 lead over Switzerland.  Next up we play Germany in Adelaide.  Lleyton flew back to Adelaide for a week or twos R&R

SATURDAY:  23rd January, 2000:  After defeating Paul Goldstein, Alex Corretja, Voinea Adrian, Lleyton was defeated by Magnus Norman in round 16 of the Australian Open bringing his incredible streak of winning matches to a close.

SATURDAY 15th January:  Lleyton defeated Jason Stoltenberg 6-4, 6-0 in an awesome display of tennis in the final of the Adidas in Sydney.  Lleyton is now No. 1 in the World!!!!   Two titles in January 2000 an amazing effort.  Now onto the Australian Open.

SATURDAY 15th January:  After defeating S. Grosjean, 6-4, 6-4, F. Clavet 6-3, 6-2, A. Voinea 7-5, 6-2, Al Corretja 6-4, 6-4 Lleyton is now into the Final where he will play fellow Aussie Jason Stoltenberg.

WEDNESDAY 12th January:  Lleyton Hewitt won his first round match at the Adidas in Sydney 6-4, 6-4 over Sebastian Grosjean. Go Lleyton!

SUNDAY 9th January:  Final scores for the AAPT South Australian Men's Hardcourt final. Lleyton defeats Enqvist 3-6 (31 mins) 6-3 (26 mins) 6-2 (33 mins) A great fightback and victory for Lleyton. He has won this event 2 out of 3 times. This is Lleyton's 3rd career title. Well done!

SATURDAY 8th January:  Lleyton defeated Nicolas Escude in the semi final 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.  He will now play Thomas Enqvist for the second year running in the Final and this is the third final Lleyton has contested at the AAPT Hardcourt Championships in Adelaide.  Go Lleyton!!!!!!!  Lleyton has also made the final in the doubles partnering Sandon Stolle where  they are playing Wayne Arthurs/Tim Henman.

WEDNESDAY 5th January:  Lleyton defeated Dejan Petrovic 6-0 6-2; WOW!--what a strong performance!

TUESDAY 4th January:  Lleyton played his first match of the year at the Adelaide Hardcourt Championships.  Unfortunately he had to play another Adelaide son, Mark Woodforde who is probably playing his last tournament in Adelaide.  Lleyton defeated Mark 6-3, 2-6, 6-1

FRIDAY 10th December: Just back from the trip of a lifetime to Nice, France to watch our boys win the Davis Cup 3-2.   They did a superb job and although Mark and the Woodies brought it home for Australia, we can't forget the fantastic effort Lleyton, Wayne and Pat put in to get us there.  Well done!  A selection of media pics are now up on the  photo gallery (thanks Shannon) and DC Experiences will be put up on the Experience page on Planet Rafter over the next few days.   Check out Vera's pics too of the Fanatics and players party.  The first tie of the year will be against Switzerland and if we get through that the following ties would all be played in Australia. 

THURSDAY  25th November: Lleyton is on the Italian Riviera practising with the Davis Cup team for their final against France - 3rd-5th December, 1999.  As I will be in Nice cheering the team on I will not be able to keep this site up to date.   Lleyton's matches will be called on Chat about Lleyton or else in the new Chat room on the front page.   Go Lleyton!!!  Go Aussies!!!

THURSDAY  4th November: 16-Cedric Pioline (FRA) d. Lleyton Hewitt (AUS) 7-6(7-4) 3-6 7-6(8-6); a great effort by both players, but with Cedric coming out on top this time!!
Lleyton will just have to remember this match for DC purposes!!

WEDNESDAY 3rd November:  Yay, Lleyton beat Yevgeny Kafelnikov again!!  This time the score was 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, go Lleyton!!  Next up Pioline.

TUESDAY 2nd November:   Lleyton beat Fernando Melignini in the 1st round at the Paris Indoor today 6-3, 6-2.  An impressive effort.

WEDNESDAY 27th October:  Lleyton Hewitt was defeated by Marat Safin in the first round at Stuttgart 6-7, 6-3, 2-6.  I guess Marat was out for revenge for his drubbing in the Davis Cup.

MONDAY 25th October:  Lleyton Hewitt went down to Nicolas Lapentti in the final in Lyon today 3-6, 2-6.  All in all though Lleyton has had a fantastic week and today his ranking went from 27 to 25. 

SUNDAY 24th October:  Lleyton Hewitt defeateated Vince Spadea 6-3, 6-3, onto the final, Go Lleyton!!!!

SATURDAY 23rd October:  Lleyton Hewitt defeated Mikael Tillstrom 6-3, 7-6

FRIDAY 22ndOctober:  Lleyton Hewitt defeated Chris Woodruff 6-4, 6-3 in the quarter final.   Go Lleyton!!!

THURSDAY 21st October:  Lleyton Hewitt had a bye in the 1st round in Lyon and in the second round defeated Roger Federer 7-6, 2-6, 6-4.  Lleyton said he had never played tennis in such a cold place before brrrr!

SATURDAY- 16th October:  4-Lleyton Hewitt was defeated by Marcelo Rios 7-5 6-3 in the semi final in Singapore today.

MONDAY -11th October:  In the first round at the Heineken Open in Singapore Lleyton defeated Paul Goldstein USA 4-6 6-2 6-4.

FRIDAY - 1st October:  What a fantastic Davis Cup victory for Australia 4-1 against Russia. Thanks to the incredible play by Lleyton Hewitt and Wayne Arthurs, Pat now has the chance to realise his life's dream to play in the final of a Davis Cup for his country and they would have to play Lleyton as well with his incredible 4-0 victories.  The final will be against France and will be played in Nice from 3rd to 5th December, 1999.  Lleyton will head off to Europe in the next couple of weeks to play in the Paris indoor tournament and Stockholm. He may play another clay tournament before the Davis Cup. Go Lleyton!!!  SEE PICS

SUNDAY - 12th September:  Lleyton is now the No. 1 anchor for the Davis Cup tie against Russia to be held ANZ Stadium, Brisbane between 24th-26th September.  Pat Rafter is out with an injured shoulder and Mark Philippoussis, as well as recovering from a knee injury suffered at Wimbledon, twisted his ankle in a social basketball game.

SUNDAY - 5th September:  Lleyton was up two sets to one and had his chances but Medvedev fought back doggedly winning 3-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.  Still it was a great US Open for Lleyton who had no match play for 4 weeks before as he was recovering from his ankle injury.  Well done Lleyton.

FRIDAY - 3rd September:  Lleyton won his second round match against Wayne Arthurs 6-2, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2   Lleyton almost had this one in 3 sets, but played a really loose game at 5-4 and Arthurs got back into the match but Lleyton regained his focus and went on to win the fourth set 6-2.

WEDNESDAY - 1st September:  Lleyton won his first round match against Marc Rosset 6-2, 6-2, 6-0 at the US Open after a 4 week lay off due to his ankle injury.   Next up Lleyton plays Wayne Arthurs.

SATURDAY - 31st July:  In the first set at 4-5 in the LA tournament Lleyton took a tumble and sprained his ankle.  He had injury time out but was unable to continue.  Let's hope he recovers quickly and it isn't too serious.

THURSDAY - 29th July:  In the second round in the LA tournament Lleyton defeated Axel Pretzsch  6-3 6-1.    Next up Lleyton plays Andre Agassi in the Quarter final.

WEDNESDAY - 28th July:  In the first round in the LA tournament Lleyton had a comfortable win over Alex O'Brien  6-3 6-2    Next up Lleyton plays Axel Pretzsch

MONDAY - 19th July:  AUSTRALIA DEFEATS USA, 4-1 Patrick Rafter def. Todd Martin, 4-6 5-7 6-3 6-2 6-4 What a tremendous comeback by Patrick to win this match.     Lleyton finished up the dead rubber winning it 7-5, 6-4 against Alex O'Brien.  What an incredible first up record for Lleyton 2-0 in Davis Cup. What a fantastic result for the Aussies.  Now onto the semi final - Australia vs Russia.  SEE PICS

SATURDAY - 17th July:  Wow!!! what a first day for the Aussies, its 2-0.  Lleyton won his first match against Todd Martin 6-4, 6-7, 6-3, 6-0, then Pat came out and won his 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 against Jim Courier  GO AUSSIES!!!!

THURSDAY, 8th July, 1999 - Today it was officially announced that Lleyton would be playing singles for the first time with the Davis Squad for their tie against the US in Boston 16-18th July, 1999 due to the injury sustained by Mark Philippoussis.  Congratulations Lleyton, he has been champing at the bit for some time and this is a remarkable achievement, I know he will do us proud.   Go Lleyton!!!!

WEDNESDAY, 30th June, 1999 - Lleyton/Roger Federer played Pat Rafter/Jonas Bjorkman for a spot in the quarter final but lost in a gripping 5 setter 7-6(1)/5-7/3-6/7-6(3)/6-4.  Lleyton's star shone today and he played like a true champion, he was the most impressive of the four by far.  That's it for Lleyton's Wimbledon and we can all be proud of his outstanding effort.  Next up he will be with the Davis Cup team in Boston.

SUNDAY, 27th June, 1999 -  Well Lleyton played Boris today and was beaten 6-1, 6-4, 7-6.  It was a great experience for Lleyton and it was a shame he lost the third set tiebreaker as he was really making inroads.  Read the ARTICLE.   See the PICS

TUESDAY, 22nd June, 1999 - Lleyton's first match at Wimbledon and he won convincingly against Filippini 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.  Lleyton looked in great form and left his opponent completely resigned to losing in the third set.     Read the INTERVIEW. See the PICS

FRIDAY, 18th June, 1999, Nottingham Open - Lleyton's Wimbledon warm-up came to an
abrupt halt today when he lost his quarter-final match at the Nottingham Open
to British No 2 Greg Rusedski. Big serving Rusedski was too strong for the Lleyton and took the match in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.

THURSDAY, 17th June, 1999, Nottingham Open - Lleyton Hewitt defeated Guillermo Canas, 6-2, 7-5  Good one Lleyton!  He faces Jan-Michael now in the Quarter final.  Go Lleyton!!!!

WEDNESDAY, 16th June, 1999, Nottingham - Lleyton, who could meet Rusedski in the
quarter-finals, beat Frenchman Clement 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 in a match spanning two hours 12 minutes


Lleyton had a fantastic week at Queens defeating Mark Philippoussis in the quarters to reach the semis to play Pete Sampras, whereby a wrong overrule could have ultimately cost Lleyton the match.  Pete Sampras had nothing but praise for Lleyton (see story in the Articles section)
