One of the best ways to learn about acting is from successful working actors, actors who are getting paid to act. If I've seen an actor on television or in films, I know for sure they have what it takes to get cast. In other words, I listen to the advice of working actors ... because they are working actors, in an industry where a very large percentage are out of work at any given time. Bones Rodrigues is a working actor. I remember seeing his McDonalds commercial and actually thinking, he's good. Natural. Funny. Bones has an ebook called "No More Waiters" and it's about how to achieve success as an actor without having to wait tables or juggle some other day job.
Creating art is why actor's act and it's one of the best known frustrations that acting takes a backseat to surviving for most aspiring actors. Believe me, I've been there. You can't take a full-time job that would pay the bills cause then you wouldn't be available for auditions. You can't afford to be available for auditions because you have to pay the rent. It's a vicious and painful cycle for the beginning actor.
I'm sure Bones is no stranger to this dilemma either. It's probably one of the reasons he was inspired to write this book, to help other actors get there quicker and with less struggle. He talks about how an actor who feels they have to work just for the money becomes a slave to the money. I know that feeling and it's one of several reasons I left Los Angeles.
Money is great but an actor acts for the art of it, for the thrill of creating. If Bones can help you keep that dream alive, the dream of the creative performer, he is doing a great service to the acting community at large. However, over the past decade, I've seen the hold on acting job opportunities open up to actors more and more because of the internet. This resource is just one more example of that opening.
