Yes, there is an ad at the beginning of this Dr. Oz program. Also, I always suspect that a vitamin company may have paid for a plug on the show. I was glad that he didn't go into name brands on this one, although the take away I got was that it really didn't matter which multivitamin you chose and I don't think that's true.
As with most of his shows, Dr. Oz starts out with a volunteer from the audience, asking them to choose or explore some idea. He shows a table of food and saying we need a broad range of foods to get all the vitamins we need.
I part ways when he gets very general about cost. Yes, you can certainly get cheap vitamins. And you can get cheap results from taking them. I recommend organic vitamins from a company known for their standards of production. Go on nutrition forums, ask around. The best vitamins ... you can tell a difference when you take them.
I don't personally take a vitamin supplement every day because I prefer to get most my nutrition from food. However, when traveling or at times when I'm under more stress than normal, or I'm not eating well due to not being able to find good food on the road, I will take a good supplement.
I like the MyKind for Women brand and I believe T. J. Clark has a good formula (that's why I have their banner on my site) but there are other good brands out there. Just do your homework.
Some people don't like to take a liquid vitamin but I also have read in more than one resource that liquid is better than pills and that the body can absorb more nutrients from a vitamin supplement in liquid form than it can from a vitamin pill that takes time to break down before releasing the ingredients.
OK, back to the Oz video, for those who'd rather read than watch... basically, Dr. Oz names most of the obvious vitamins to get into your diet ... A, C, D, E, B and Omega 3. It's just a five-minute video so obviously, I can't expect him to go into depth but I would hope on a full-length show he'd also speak to the fact that C and B vitamins are water-soluble and our body can't store them. Thus, it's more vital to get those on a daily basis than A, D or E, which can be stored. Also, in winter, I agree that extra D might be needed and from what I've read, the best form is D3.
If you take one or more prescription drugs regularly, you may be at risk of having certain nutrients depleted beyond what the average person might experience.
