Pasir Panjang Teachers Training College
Every year the Teachers Education Division , Ministry of Education will advertise for applications to teachers training colleges in the daily newspapers. You have to apply for the form from the division or it can be bought from the local post office. Fill in the form and submit before the dateline. If you qualify you will be required to sit for a Qualifying Test (UKELP). If again you qualify, you will be called for an interview where the final selection will be made.
The courses available in this college are pre-service training and in-service training.
For pre-service training which is a three year course leading to a Malaysian Diploma in Teaching, you have to choose the subject options you would like to specialise in. Options available are Malay Language, English ( TESL), Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Music, Physical Education, Kindergaten and The Islamic Religion.
For in-service training which is a one year course leading to a diploma, you have to choose one subject out of the many available. In this maktab , English( TESL) and Science are available.
For pre-service training you must have at least a SPM/SPVM/SPMV with five creditsof which one must be in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia and should have passed the Ujian Lisan at the SPM / SPMV level or a Principal in Bahasa Melayu at STP/STPM level. A pass in Mathematics is also required.
For in-service training which is normally applied through the State Education Department, you must be a trained teacher with a Teaching Certificate with at least five years of teaching experience.
Beside the normal academic lectures, teacher trainees are required to be involved actively in extra curricular activities like games, societies and uniform movements. In addition short courses are also held periodically for self development of the teacher trainees.
We have three blocks of hostel to cater for 120 new female students.Other students are expected to find their accommodation outside with the help of the students association.
We have a field for games , a gym for physical workout, two tennis courts, two sepak takraw courts, a netball court, a basketball court, and a badminton court .
We have a well equipped library which is opened to the students as well as teachres from 8.00 in the morning till 4.00 in the evening. We have two computer labs with over 100 'standalone' computers and a networking lab with 30 computers to cater for the increasing demand for computer education and literacy.
We also have a language lab besides a music room , two science laboratories , four lecture halls and 15 lecture rooms.
A kindergarten is set up to provide in situ training for those trainees taking up the pre -school course.
