Mid-South Chapter, VHPA, Meeting Minutes 7 Oct 00Meeting was called to order by Chapter President Charlie Bell. Attending were Vice President Tom Reeves, Treasurer Rhea Rippey, Secretary Ross Rainwater, and Clarksville-area Member-At-Large, Bob Fladry.
Previous meeting minutes were distributed and approved.
Treasurer Rippey reports chapter finances in good order, with $2,517.15 cash in bank, and $5,000 split evenly between a Cash Reserve Account and a T. Rowe Price Growth Mutual Fund. Only payable is the $40 Annual Registration for our tax-exempt status.
Secretary Rainwater distributed membership lists, which added new members Bill Squire, Jr., Greg Simpson, and Russ Shupp. During the meeting, additional membership applications were processed for Craig Abington and Jim Price. This brings us to Membership Number 68.
OLD BUSINESS
o Membership Cards for Life Members. Rhea Rippey reports his wife, who was key in designing the Reunion 99 and Chapter Logos, will soon have some time to help design and create these cards, and perhaps some Charter Membership Certificates as well.
o Chapter Name Change. After discussion about all the various administrative changes and corporate filing amendments required by such a name change, it was moved, seconded, and passed to retain the current chapter name.
o Veterans Day Parade. Rally point for the Saturday 11 Nov parade is NLT 1030 hours across the street from Jim Reed Chevrolet on Broadway, just west of the Interstate downtown interchange Broadway exit. President Bell will initiate a request through channels for a Cobra on a flatbed. Member Ken Culwell has also committed to having his restored Jeep available.
VP Reeves will coordinate our request to march with parade authorities.
Since this parade is on a Saturday, maximum attendance is encouraged. Following the end of the parade, which ends at Broadway and 2nd Avenue, we will have a lunch/meeting at the Big River restaurant near there. Members with suitable military items and uniforms are encouraged to wear them. Cav hats ARE authorized.
Secretary Rainwater will provide news media with information about our participation in the parade. He will also request an updated VHPA list from National HQ for mailing purposes in support of prospective members who might want to join us.
o Election of Officers. Since no one nominated themselves for an officer position by meeting time, the current slate of officers volunteered to serve another two-year term. After the meeting, we received an e-mail from Ken Culwell (who was unable to attend because some of his livestock had gotten loose and he had to assume the role of cowboy) volunteered for a leadership position. This will be followed up.
o Chapter merchandise. President Bell will coordinate efforts to gather up all chapter merchandise to have it in one central spot for use at various venues.
NEW BUSINESS
o Operation Rocky Top, Jackson, TN. Members in the local Jackson area will be contacted to see if anyone can be OIC of our participation in this veterans' event. (Later e-mail exchanges indicates no one is readily available. Unless someone will take charge of this, we will not participate this year.)
o Next Meeting: 11 Nov 00, right after the Veterans Day Parade, at Big River Restaurant, 111 Broadway, Nashville.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Ross Rainwater
