Nashville
Veterans Day Parade, 2006
It was a cold (45 degrees), blustery,
overcast Veterans Day Parade in Nashville this year, but, as usual, the
Nashville area knows how to honor its veterans and turned out en masse.
The turnout was all the more remarkable since the temperatures the day
before had hit 80 with plenty of sunshine. As the old song title said,
"What a difference a day makes"! We joked that we'd be looking for the
USAF Weather Officer with a little blood in our eyes!
This year we were positioned
considerably further back in the parade order, so we had quite a bit of
"mill around, mill" and "hurry up and wait" until it was time for us to
step off. Parade officials work to put those at the back of the parade
one year nearer to the front the next, so it was our turn to be back in
the pack.
Afterwards, as is our custom, we adjourned to Stony River Restaurant
for a great lunch.
Even with the marginal weather conditions, it was a great day to be a
veteran in Middle Tennessee!

Ross Rainwater, and Chris Horton
in front of a Bradley on a low-boy.
The marginal weather and low ceilings prevented
any aircraft participation in the parade.

inside for lunch.
