VIETNAM HELICOPTER PILOTS FORM LOCAL VHPA CHAPTER
Middle Tennessee area helicopter pilots who flew in Vietnam during the Vietnam War have formed the Mid-South Chapter, Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association (VHPA) under the auspices of the national VHPA organization, headquartered in Citrus Heights, CA. The local chapter now has members from as far away as Virginia and Texas, and is open to anyone who flew helicopters in Vietnam.
This local chapter had as one of its primary initial projects the organization and support of the 1999 VHPA Annual Reunion, held in Nashville July 1-5, 1999. Attendance at the 1999 Annual Reunion set a record. During the Reunion, the 10,000th VHPA member was recognized.
Among a wide variety of banquets, picnics, and tours, the Reunion featured static displays of Vietnam-era helicopters, military equipment (both US and captured), mini-reunions of individual units, and a keynote speech by Adrian Cronauer, of "Good Morning, Vietnam" fame.
The 2000 VHPA Reunion was held in Washington, DC, in conjunction with Independence Day festivities there. Members of the local chapter proudly marched in the Independence Day Parade.
The 2001 VHPA Reunion will be in Denver, Colorado
Organized as a 501(c)3 non-profit veteran's organization with no political agenda and open to all branches of service, a primary goal of the VHPA is to rekindle and foster the spirit of duty, honor, country, sacrifice, and esprit de corps which was so much a part of the Vietnam experience for helicopter aircrews.
Next chapter meeting will be at [DATE/TIME/PLACE]
