Visiting a cemetery where your Ancestors are buried could reveal a wealth
of information.  Not only the dates that they were born or the dates that they died,
but other relatives  buried alongside of them.
Many stones that are hard to read today, will be impossible to read ten years from now,
Due to weather and decay.
Today, more and more people are being cremated or donating their bodies to Science,
that it will become a difficult task for our descendants to trace family groups.
Isn't it wonderful that you are creating your Family tree now, laying the foundation for
your Descendants .
There is a great project called Cemetery Online where they have hopes of  volunteers
submitting information for every cemetery in every state, city and county.
It is a researchers dream. Especially if you do not live in the area you are researching.
I have personally compiled a local Catholic cemetery where most of my ancestors  are buried.
It was a hard task, but interesting and rewarding. I now have about 5,000 names
in my database, which will be published and donated to the
local libraries and History Center, in hopes of helping other researchers.

                                               Dear Ancestor

Your tombstone stands among the rest
                                       Neglected and alone
The name and date are chiseled out
                                     On polished marble stone
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn

You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh and blood and bone
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
                                       Entirely not our own

                                 Dear Ancestor..the place you filled
                                      One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so
I wonder how you lived and loved
                                       I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot
                                      And come to visit you.
