The Black Cape

I heard about The Black Cape first
How you introduced yourself
To a Minister
As Satan

I laughed then
Because the mental image
Was funny

Then October Came
We Dressed up
For Classes one day

And you wore
The Black Cape
With a black mask
To make it seem like you had
No face

I laughed then
As you walked into class
And picked your seat
In the middle of the room
Half way back the aisle

And you stayed that way
All through class
Head up, watching the professor

And then that halloween
We all dressed up
A Witch
A Clown
A serial Killer
And you and I dressed as Death

I sprayed my red hair black
And wore a leather jacket
You wore
The Black Cape

Door to door
Free Candy for
College Students
Except this one door
Didn't open when we knocked

We gave up and walked away
But you Stayed
And knocked again
And again
And Again

Until someone finally cracked the door
"I'm Death. I've come for your soul."
You said to the man
"Well, all I have are dumb dumbs."
He replied
"Those'll do" you said
And helped ourself to a handful

I laughed then
At the Whole scene
That played out before me
And we went on

And somehow life
Interrupted us
Our blissful ignorance
Our blind eyes

We parted ways
But stayed in touch
The way good friends do
A visit here and there
A chat over the internet

I heard about the gun
I couldn't believe it
I thought about all the times
We talked, and laughed
And I thought about
The Black Cape

And then I cried
