How It All Began...

Old Skool Sweethearts from the Pi Chapter
Later in the developement of Kappa Alpha Psi, Undergraduate chapters started initiating little sisters and calling them sweethearts. These organizations were under the complete control of the members of that chapter and had little or no organization between the members. The main purpose of the Kappa Sweethearts (some places call them the Kappa Diamonds) and Silhouettes is to help the Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi in any way necessary. That includes setting up events, helping to plan events, helping with the intake process, as well as community service and fund raising. The Kappa Sweethearts, being a separate organization under Kappa Alpha Psi, also hold their own meetings, events, and community service with support from the brothers of the Fraternity. They are representatives of Kappa Alpha Psi when they are doing functions and associating with other brothers. They are expected to be Sweethearts not only in name but in act as well. Sweethearts or either Diamonds are also known as Kappa Kittens, Kappa Bunnies, Kappa Dolls and Kappa Karnations etc., these types of little sister organaization floursihed until the late 1970’s.

The Kappa Sweethearts are the only women universally accepted in the history of the Fraternity as being a "sister" type of organization. Becoming a Kappa Sweetheart did not and does not exclude you from eventually pledging another sorority. Many women have, after becoming a Kappa Sweetheart, moved on to pledge Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta, Sigma Gamma Rho, or Alpha Kappa Alpha. There are also many women who decided that being a Kappa Sweetheart is all they need in their life. The experience was that rewarding. There are Kappa Sweethearts all across the country and in some schools there maybe more Sweethearts than Brothers.

Many organizations have evolved from the Kappa Sweethearts ("Krimson Kourt, Inc.", "Sweethearts, Inc.", "Pretty Girls, Inc.", "Kappa Kourt, Inc.", etc.), but essentially they all have the same goals and ideals from their common foundation in the history of Kappa Alpha Psi.

The Legacy Continues...
