I. Why are friends so important?
A. Friends are a great encouragement

1. They pick you up when you're down
2. They make you feel warm inside
3. They defend you
B. A friend can give difficult but needed advice.

C. A friend can see potential that you may not see.

II. What qualities does God want us to choose in our friends?
A. God wants us to be careful about picking our friends.
vs. Proverbs 1:10-19
B. God wants us to be an understanding friend.
vs. Romans 12:9-10 and 14-15; Proverbs 27:14
C. God wants us to be a trustworthy friend (A friend should keep a secret and not gossip)
vs. Psalms 31:11-13; 38:11; 41:9; Proverbs 16:28; 17:9
D. God wants us to be a friend that doesn't hold a grudge. (Holding a grudge is being unwilling to forgive somebody)
vs. Proverbs 22:24-25; Hebrews 12:15
III. Everybody wants friends, but not everybody knows how to make good friends.
