HEAVEN MADE NO ANGELS
- Leslie E. Johnson copyright 1987

Heaven made no Angels
for me to hold
And so, throughout my life
my heart shall grow cold
Heaven made no Angels
to make me care
They are only statues
who answer with a cold stare
Heaven made no Angels
for me to kiss
And so, the joy of affection
I'll forever miss
Heaven made no Angels
to be my companion
I walk alone
my thoughts are random
Heaven made no Angels
for me to love with my heart
My mind flies like a dove
as my emotions are torn apart
Heaven made no Angels
and so, I am alone
I stagger through life
with a heart of stone

Answer to the above poem:

HEAVEN MADE ONE ANGEL
- Justin Griffin copyright 1996

Heaven made one angel
Who fell down to earth,
Only when again she stood,
There was no memory in her of heaven.
She had no thoughts of glory, or beauty;
Only coldness, evil and hate,
For the ground was so hard and sharp
With stones to cut her flesh.

Heaven made one angel
But she didn't know her name.
Instead she chose one for herself.
Invictus, to spite the world.
In spite, she searched,
And found more misery and noise,
So instead she concluded that's all there is,
And let it enter her.

And thus Heaven's only angel
Called herself an evil thing
While doing, all the while,
The acts of peace she was meant to do.
The thunder roared, and the rain poured,
And still she found no angels.
You see, angels don't believe in mirrors,
And seldom see themselves.

And then, by Heaven's fate,
I happened to meet her one day.
I didn't know what, or how it was,
But something was more than average.
the quiet and power that she contained
Was more than I had seen.
I knew at once this was a special day
For I had met someone to remember.

Heaven watched, and the angel cursed
The living world she saw.
But in her eyes something stayed
To show her more to be.
I watched as the world turned her over
And over in its hands.
It seemed so very unfair to me
That she should be forced to take it.

Heaven in it's ultimate grace
And wisdom then moved so strong
To break the shell which covered her face,
And made her see herself.
Before my eyes, I saw her wings
Arc slowly, so slowly, from her form.
Finally I learned the woman I knew
Was in truth an angel.

Then cursed Heaven, with its damnable plan,
Chose to move her along.
There were others yet with need, it seemed,
And more who must learn to love.
So then I wondered what I would do
Without this angel to guide me,
But soon I found that angel wings
Were large enough for all.

So now that Heaven has moved us on
I feel a sadness; an ache.
But the gift she gave was so much more than great
It fails to be overcome.
She gave of her love for no return
And coveted only peace,
And I know now for all my days,
I shall truly never be the same.
