Trucker's Prayer

God our Father,
you lead Abraham from his home
and guarded him in all his wanderings

. You guided him safely to the destination
you had chosen for him.
Be with us now as we travel.
Be our safety every mile of the way.

Make us attentive, cautious and
concerned about our fellow travelers.
Make our highways safe
and keep us from all danger.
Guide us to our destination for today
and may it bring us one day closer
to our final destination with you.
We pray this in Jesus' name.

Amen

"A Trucker's Family Prayer"

Dear Lord:
Please watch over our Trucker,
as he may needs extra guidance.

He is out on that long, unforgiving road,
trying to make a honest living.

Please be sure to keep him safe;
it can be very dangerous this far away from home.

Life out there can be full of stress
and disappointment:

We ask that you lift him up when he is down,
reminding him that he is not alone,
that you are always within him.

Dead lines and Hot loads are a worry too,
Dear Lord; Shine your light on him as
he travels thru the midnight darkness;
keeping his eyes opened untill he is able to rest.

Lord, know that our Trucker
did not choose an easy path:
He chose to drive a truck for a living,
which does not allow us a "normal" family life.

Please bless this man; for the sacrifice that he made is....himself. This is not an easy life,
but it is the life that we live.

Times at home with out him are hard too,
sometimes the worries and loneliness can seem unbearable.

Please remind him that he is always in our hearts,
no matter how many miles he is from home.

Knowing that you have our
"Trucker-Family"
under you wings to
protect us from harm,
allows us to wake up each morning
loving you and knowing:
You love us; regardless of where we might be.

Amen

Truckers Tribute

Truckers are found on highways,
in truck stops, in service bays, on loading docks,
on bush roads and at fuel stops, and often,
they are the first at the scene of an accident.

Their wives help them.
Little boys follow them.
Relatives and friends don't understand them.
Meals must wait for them.
Weather can delay them.
But nothing can stop them.

A trucker is a paradox.
He is a blue jeaned executive with his office in a cab.
He is a scientist who hauls dangerous chemicals
and explosives; a purchasing agent in a baseball cap;
a personnel director with grease under his fingernails;
a poor eater with a fondness for burgers and fries,
steak and potatoes' a student of geography
and a weather watcher who reads the clouds
for rain or snow.

He likes sunshine, children, smooth pavement,
good traction, clean loads, dinner at home,
weekends with his family, his shirt collar unbuttoned
and country music. And there is a special place
in his heart for his rig.

He's not too fond of city traffic, tourists,
or rotten drivers, fuel prices, dispatchers,
snarly receivers, rubber neckers,
kids in high-powered cars or drunk drivers.

Nobody else gets as much satisfaction out of
talking about trucks, truckers, gear shifting,
good weather, homemade pie, strong hot coffee,
kids, wives, sweethearts and the price of diesel.

He is your friend and your customer.
He is your source of food, building products,
clothing, petroleum, natural resources, in fact,
nearly everything in your life arrived in his truck.

And when he comes home after a long and tiring trip,
the energy sapped from his hopes and dreams,
he can be lifted up once more by a kiss
from the wife and those magic words ---
"Daddy's home."

Tribute To A Trucker's Wife

It takes a special woman
to make a truck driver's wife.
It is not easy for God's tender creation
to live such a life.
A life where you must be both mother and father
while your husband is gone.
When you put your day's work aside,
you go to bed alone.
And there lay awake thinking
of the day your husband will come home.

You must go about with the strength of a man.
You manage the household,
make decisions and plans.
Though as strong as a man, you may not be
You never let the world know when you're weak.
You always hold your head high
and do the best that you can.

When those times come where all things go wrong
And it's no longer possible
for you to remain strong.
These are the times your heart quakes with pain
And tears from your eyes fall
like torrential rain.

You would that your husband were there
to wipe the tears from you face.
You wish you could feel the strength
of his arms, his loving embrace.
Greatly you long to know that he cares.
You need to be reminded that he
shares your dreams and your fears.

As the pain becomes unbearable,
the telephone rings.
You hear the voice of your lover
and your heart begins to sing.
As you feel the warmth of his touch
thru the telephone wire
His words quicken your spirit,
rekindle you fire.

You thank God that the chat,
no matter how brief
Has come just in time to fend off your grief.
Sometimes in your dreams, I suppose
you imagine yourself many great things.
While in your heart you know
you will never live in a palace,
never be a queen.

But for you to attain highness,
of such grandor there is no need.
You already are one of the greatest women
the world's ever seen.
You are that special woman it takes
to be a truck driver's wife.
I do truly love and thank God I have you
as part of my life.
To you, all my love, my darling wife.

Trucker's Ode

Midnight rings for 3 AM
dispatch is on the line
I'm told to mount the steed again
and make the highway mine
Massive wheels that take to flight
the goods that stores will show
A huge machine adorned in lights
pretripped and set to go

400 horses pulling strong
beneath the metal frame
Pounding, shaking, diesel smoked
of which I'm held to blame
I fight to stay awake sometimes
no one should ever know
Of what its like to risk your life
when loads just have to go

For every journey leaves its mark
on pavement graves I've seen
Where thin white crosses designate
a loved one's tragic scene
But the freedom of the open road
is more than most will know
and stands to serve this trucker's ode
of loads that have to go

Midnight rings for 3 AM
dispatch is on the line
I'm told to mount the steed again
and make the highway mine
Massive wheels that take to flight
the goods that stores will show
A huge machine adorned in lights
pretripped and set to go
