Degus The degu is native to the forests of Chile, the degu
(pronounced day-goo) is a cavy-like rodent akin to the chinchilla, guinea
pig and capybara. It is roughly one third the size of a chinchilla,
measuring about 10 inches long--not including the tail. The degu has a
soft tweed coat(yellow-brown and black hairs intermixed)with a cream
colored belly, large ears and a wonderful personality. Degus are an excellent pet choice, but they are very family oriented and crave social interaction. They do not do well as solitary animals unless you as the owner commit to spending quality time with them everyday. Degus become hostile without compaionship. It is recommended that you buy at least 2 of these-- even two of the same sex, rather than keeping animal alone. If handled from birth, degus retain their endearing pet qualities even when kept in groups. For more information visit--Animal Network © 2001 Circle D Farms |
