The dendrobiums are an incredibly diverse genus, including a wide variety of plant and flower sizes, shapes, and colors. The el cheapo varieties that can be had at Home Depot or Krogers have long lasting flowers (up to 3 months) and are easy to grow, although they have fairly high light requirements to bloom really well. They like small pots and repotting every year when the new growths are about half grown. They like good moisture (but not soggy) in the growing season and somewhat drier in winter when growth may be minimal. Do not let these plants go bone dry when they have buds or flowers or they may drop them. These are warm growers and do quite well at house temperatures.
Many other types of dendrobiums are available, but you should know what they require before purchasing them. Some species require a severe dry spell and others need a cooling off and some require both in order to set buds. Be sure you can provide the correct growing and blooming condition or else you could find some species to be rather frustrating to deal with.
We have plants in white, pink, and purple preparing to bloom for about $15.00 plus $8.00 shipping and packing. Smaller and larger plants may be available for $12.00 to $35.00. See our catalog for a listing of available dendrobiums.
