A Promise Kept, The Death of Sarah

Within the days to come Sarah had carried on with her life, waiting for her beloved Dragon Knight to return.

She was hanging her clothes out to dry when she saw Darm Tower erupt into flames.

“The…the tower! Then Shiva must’ve…”

A smile forms across Sarah’s face as she thinks about her love returning to her with the news of Adol’s safety. But then she remembers the vision that she had seen within her crystal ball.

“I…I know what I must do.”

She heads back into her house and pulls out a strange book from a hidden shelf within her library. She dusts the book off and takes it to her friend Olan and asks a request of him. “Olan, I…I have a favor to ask. This…this book, it is very important to the Hero of Ys, and he will return to this village for it…In the event that something should happen to me…please, give this book to him.”

“I…I will Miss Tovah. But what makes you think….”

Olan then remembers that Sarah is a fortuneteller and maybe she knew something that he didn’t. He takes the book and asks Sarah to be extra careful. She complies and heads back to her house. Lying back down upon her bed, she clutches her pillow crying.

The following morning, Sarah wakes up and takes her morning shower, following her usual routine. As she sets down to have a cup of tea, the gate guard could be heard announcing that a stranger approaches.

Sarah becomes very happy at the thought that it could be Shiva, and quickly slips on her sandals and adjusts her robe while running up to her door. As she opens the door, she suddenly feels a very sharp and piercing pain in her lower abdomen. She didn’t even hear or much less see the arrows that shot straight through her. She grabs her waist and falls to the ground.

She tries to call for help, but another Brayzal monster burst in through the wall, shooting her once more with his crossbow. Dios hears her scream and grabs an axe from his weapons rack, running over to her residence.

Catching the monster off guard, Dios delivers a fatal blow to the beast. He then embraces Sarah and tries to tend to her wounds. She was trembling in spasms and yet, more monsters were entering the city.

“Mystic illusion chaos strike, YOGEN-LAN GEGI-DAN!!!”

A wave of blazing fire rips through the city, incinerating all monsters within. Shiva jumps from over the wall and cleaves through the remaining ones.

“Is everyone alright? Hmm?”

The Dragon Knight spots a crowd of people gathering at Sarah’s house and he begins to fear the worst. Running like mad and shoving his way through the crowd, he finds Sarah still trembling in Dios’ arms.

“Sarah…..Moons of Phantoma, no…”

His heart skips a beat as he embraces the woman he loves, ripping apart her robe to treat her wounds. She had begun to bleed severely by now, and Shiva tried his best to stop it but his efforts seemed futile.

“Sir, pour some water over her stomach, now. Please! Sarah hold on, you’re gonna be okay. Just stay with us.”

“Sh…Shi…va, how…bad is…it? How…bad…”

“It’s nothing, you’re going to be alright.” assures Dios. “Someone get me a towel or two!”

Shiva embraces Sarah and tries to control her spasms while Dios washes the blood from her stomach. More blood flows from her wounds as Dios cleans them.

“Check her back. If these wounds go all the way through…”

Shiva rolls Sarah over on her side slightly while Dios places a towel underneath her.

“There….there’s a hole in the base of her back the size of an acorn…”

Sarah clutches Shiva’s hand tightly and looks up to him.

“Am…am I shot in…the…spine?”

“Sarah, I…”

She continued to tremble and suddenly began to cough up blood. Shiva wiped the blood from her mouth as Dios packed more towels upon her stomach, adding pressure to them.

“I can’t let her die like this!” thinks Shiva to himself. “She’s gonna live, she’s GOT TO live!!!”

He begins to cry and Sarah begins to panic.

“Shiva….I…..I wanna go home. I wanna go home, I wanna go home…”

“Honey please, don’t talk. Save your strength. Shhhhh.”

“Help me Shiva, I…..”

Sarah’s body goes limp and she stops trembling. Shiva fears the worst, but she was still alive.

“I don’t want to die, Shiva help me please! I don’t want to die!”

Sarah begins to cry while Shiva holds onto her hand, kissing her forehead and looking into her sad, blue eyes.

“I won’t let you die my love, but I need you to hold on for me. Hold on Sarah, don’t you give up!”

“Pa….papa? Cough, COUGH, cough!!!”

She coughs up more blood and Dios drops his head.

“Shiva, we’re losing her.”

“The hell we are! I’m not giving up on her! How can you people give up on her?!”

“She dying Shiva,” adds nurse Adrian. “Just leave her be.”

Shiva evil eyes her and looks down upon Sarah with sad, fearful eyes.

“Papa?…papa, papa….pa…pa…mom…mmmm…..”

Sarah Tovah breathes her last, and dies within Shiva’s arms. She had lost too much blood.

“No……….NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Shiva breaks down in tears and holds Sarah’s body close to him. He wouldn’t let her go.

“I’m……I’m the most powerful warrior in the land, yet……I can’t even save the woman I love. First my daughter, now Sarah. WHY???!!!”

He sets Sarah down and kisses her one final time before departing Placid Row, never to be seen again.
