Adultery

Strong’s Hebrew 5003- Adultery-lit. to commit adultery, fig. apostatize. Greek 3432- Adultery- paramour, apostate, adulterer.

Webster’s- Paramour-A lover; one who wrongfully holds the place of a spouse. Apostasy- Departure from ones faith; desertion of a party. Apostate- One who renounces his religion or his party. False; traitorous.

Ex.20:14, Deut.5:18- Do not commit adultery.

Prov.6:32-33- But the man who commits adultery is an utter fool, for he destroys his own soul. Wounds and constant disgrace are his lot. His shame will never be erased.

Mat.5:27-30- You have heard it said that the law of Moses says, Do not commit adultery. But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eyes has already committed adultery with her in his heart. So if your eye even if it is your good eye causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your hand even if it is your stronger hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

Rom.13:8-10- Pay all your debts, except the debt of love for others. You can never finish paying that! If you love your neighbor, you will fulfil all the requirements of God’s law. For the commandments against adultery and murder and stealing and coveting and any other commandment are all summed up in this one commandment: Love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no wrong to anyone, so love satisfies all of God’s requirements.

Gal.5:19-21- When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, your lives will produce these evil results: sexual immorality, impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, idolatry, participation in demonic activities, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, divisions, feeling that everyone is wrong except those in your own little group, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other kinds of sin. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Gal.5:19-21,KJV- Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulation’s, wrath, strife, sedition’s, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Three capitalized for emphasis, Adultery, Idolatry, Envyings. Probably listed in order of severity, or to signify the (strongman or head) leader of those listed directly after.

Ez.16:30-34-What a sick heart you have, says the Sovereign Lord, to do such things as these, acting like a shameless prostitute. You build your pagan shrines on every street corner and your altars to idols in every square. You have been worse than a prostitute, so eager for sin that you have not even demanded payment for your love! Yes, you are an adulterous wife who takes in strangers instead of her own husband. Prostitutes charge for their services but not you! You give gifts to your lovers, bribing them to come to you. So you are opposite of other prostitutes. No one pays you; instead, you pay them.

Hos.4:1-3-Hear the word of the Lord, O people of Israel! The Lord has filed a lawsuit against you, saying: There is no faithfulness, no kindness, no knowledge of God in your land. You curse and lie and kill and steal and commit adultery. There is violence everywhere, with one murder after another. That is why your land is not producing. It is filled with sadness, and all living things are becoming sick and dying. Even the animals, birds, and fish have begun to disappear.

Rom.2:21-24- Well then, if you teach others, why don’t you teach yourself? You tell others not to steal, but do you steal? You say it is wrong to commit adultery, but do you do it? You condemn idolatry, but do you steal from pagan temples? You are so proud of knowing the law, but you dishonor God by breaking it. No wonder the Scriptures say, The world blasphemes the name of God because of you.

2Peter 2:12-16- These false teachers are like unthinking animals, creatures of instinct, who are born to be caught and killed. They laugh at the terrifying powers they know so little about, and they will be destroyed along with them. Their destruction is their reward for the harm they have done. They love to indulge in evil pleasures in broad daylight. They are a disgrace and a stain among you. They commit adultery with their eyes, and their lust is never satisfied. They make a game of luring unstable people into sin. They train themselves to be greedy; they are doomed and cursed. They have wandered off the right road and followed Balaam son of Boer, who loved to earn money by doing wrong. But Balaam was stopped from his mad course when his donkey rebuked him with a human voice.

Rev.2:19-23- I know all the things you do, your love, your faith, your service, and your patient endurance. And I can see your constant improvement in all these things. But I have this complaint against you. You are permitting that woman Jezebel who calls herself a prophet to lead my servants astray. She is encouraging them to worship idols, eat food offered to idols, and commit sexual sin. I gave her time to repent, but she would not turn away from her immorality. Therefore, I will throw her upon a sickbed, and she will suffer greatly with all who commit adultery with her, unless they turn away from all their evil deeds. I will strike her children dead. And all the churches will know that I am one who searches out the thoughts and intentions of every person. And I will give to each of you whatever you deserve.

Jer.3:6-10- During the reign of King Josiah, the Lord said unto me, “Have you seen what fickle Israel does? Like a wife who commits adultery, Israel has worshipped other gods under every green tree. I thought that after she had done all this she would return to me. But she did not come back. And though her faithless sister Judah saw this, she paid no attention. She saw that I had divorced faithless Israel and sent her away. But now Judah, too, has left me and given herself to prostitution. Israel treated it all so lightly she thought nothing of committing adultery by worshipping idols made of wood and stone. So now the land has been greatly defiled. But in spite of all this, her faithless sister Judah has never sincerely returned to me. She has only pretended to be sorry,” says the Lord.

Jer.5:7-9- How can I pardon you? For even your children have turned from me. They have sworn by gods that are not gods at all! I fed my people until they were fully satisfied. But they thanked me by committing adultery and lining up at the city’s brothels. They are well fed, lusty stallions, each neighing for his neighbor’s wife. Should I not punish them for this? Asks the Lord. “Should I not avenge myself against a nation such as this?

Jer.23:13-14- I saw the prophets of Samaria were terribly evil, for they prophesied by Baal and led my people of Israel into sin. But now I see that the prophets of Jerusalem are even worse! They commit adultery, and they love dishonesty. They encourage those who are doing evil instead of turning them away from their sins. These prophets are as wicked as the people of Sodom and Gomorrah once were.

Jer.29:23- For these men have done terrible things among my people. They have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives and have lied in my name. I am a witness to this, says the Lord.

Ez.23:36-39- The Lord said to me, ”Son of man, you must accuse Oholah and Oholibah of all their awful deeds. They have committed both adultery and murder adultery by worshipping idols and murder by burning their children as sacrifices on their altars. Then after doing these terrible things, they defiled my Temple and violated my Sabbath day! On the very day that they murdered their children in front of their idols, they boldly came into my Temple to worship! They came in and defiled my house!

Mat.15:3-9- Jesus replied, “And why do you, by your traditions, violate the direct commandment of God? For instance, God says, “Honor your father and mother,” and “anyone who speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death.” But you say, ”You don’t need to honor your parents by caring for their needs if you give the money to God instead”. And so by your own tradition, you nullify the direct commandment of God. You hypocrites! Isaiah was prophesying about you when he said, “ These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far away. Their worship is a farce, for they replace God’s commands with their own man made teachings.”

Hos.5:4- Your deeds won’t let you return to your God. You are a prostitute through and through, and you cannot know the Lord. For greater understanding read, Hosea 4&5, with Proverbs 7.
