Notes:
This is a fun one. Once upon a time there lived a man in north Georgia named Jessie Caldwell. He was married with a few children. Next door to him lived an indian woman, her husband and a few kids. Jessie and Nannie met up at the creek a few times and fell in love. They both ran off to Alabama, abandoning their families. We're unsure if they ever got married, since we're pretty sure neither of them got legally divorced. When Nannie died, Jessie went back to his first wife, who, wisely, wouldn't have him back, so he went on to "marry" a third woman, with whom he had a few more kids.
It has come down through our family that Nannie was a Cherokee Indian. We have never found proof of this, but we have met up with a distant cousin descended from Jessie and his first wife, who said that he had always been told that his grandfather ran off with the indian woman who lived next door. It was through him that we learned that she had a family before Jessie. Also, we are unsure if her maiden name was Pritchett, or if that was her married name.
