In this book, Hagin examines what fasting means to today's believer. He builds every point on Scripture (numerous citations and quotations appear through the book). The first chapter starts with fasting in the Old Testament, but immediately turns to fasting in the New Testament (its meaning for us in the Church today). Hagin points out that there are no commands to fast in the New Testament, however there are many examples of fasting among Jesus and his disciples. The main theme is, fasting is a personal act between a believer and God; each believer should be led by the Holy Spirit to determine when fasting is needed in their life. When you enter a fast you must have a purpose; the Scripture shows three areas that directly relate to fasting: when you wish to minister to the Lord, to lay hands on ministers to send them forth, and to draw close to God in times of danger. Hagin relates the Scriptures to each of these areas explaining their application to the believer. He goes on to show examples of fasting from his own life and the results he received. Hagin then warns against extremes and explains the different kinds of fast ending the book by show the personal application of fasting in your personal walk with God.
I knew of fasting but had no idea what it could mean for me until I read this book. I recommend this book for anyone seeking a powerful tool to "keep the flesh down" and draw closer to our Lord. Webmaster
