Great Smoky Mountains

The national park, in the states of North Carolina and Tennessee, encompasses 800 square miles of which 95 percent are forested. World renowned for the diversity of its plant and animal resources, the beauty of its ancient mountains, the quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture, and the depth and integrity of the wilderness sanctuary within its boundaries, it is one of the largest protected areas in the east.

DESIGNATIONS

World Heritage Site - December 6, 1983

The Great Smoky Mountain's National Park has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. The view can be breath-taking. The serenity of nature can't be surpassed. The mtn peaks above the clouds, the mist that rises from the valleys, the green meadows and gurgling streams all make for a peaceful, calming environment. But the majesty can stir the senses beyond belief. You have to experience it yourself to understand fully.

And if you visit the park, you're less than 45 minutes from where I live. Just far enough away to enjoy the mtns and to avoid the hectic hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. :-)
