| There Is A Better Way! I did not find it in time. So I did not know clearly just what the overall Word of God really meant when I would read about "the Rod" and there was no one to explain just what "the rod" meant (so needless to say), but I applied the rod in somewhat the same manner as I had been taught as my wife and I were raising our four children, two boys and two girls. I will venture to say what I have said before: if it were possible to do so, my mother and dad would turn over in their graves, if they clearly understood just what "the Rod" meant, when it came to applying it to their own children. Now you may have a question about just what "the Rod" means and how to apply it. But if one (anyone) will only believe what God has said in His Word, the anwer will be clear to all that believe. As we are told in Isaiah 1:18, "Come now, and let us reason together... |
| And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant. Ezekiel 20:37. (The rod is the word of the covenant.) The Lord's voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it. Micah 6:9 (bold is mine). Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Psalm 23:4 (bold is mine). And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. Revelation 12:9 (bold is mine). The man child spoken of in this scripture is the 144,000--the woman is Israel. |

| And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron... Revelation 19:15 (bold is mine). The "rod" is His Word; with the iron He is going to enforce His Word. The child is to be taught by the parents (or parent) the Word of God. The Word of God is the only rod our Heavenly Father has ever used. My testimony: on the occasions when my children disobeyed, as I understood the Word of God, I would take the child into a private room and talk to him (or her), read the Word of God to him (or her), and pray with him (or her). By my having done so in such a manner, I was applying God's rod to the child. |
| Spare the Rod and Spoil the Child? |
| How often have we heard that term? It is a command of God, given in His Word, to every parent. Yet I ask, have we rightly divided the Word of God on this issue? We have departed from our Maker, God. God didn't only make all human beings--He made everything that was made! In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:1-3. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:14. God's Word became flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Ghost. It is through the Holy Ghost that we have all three within us. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8. |
| I didn't learn this at home. I didn't learn this in school. I didn't learn this in seminars (although I have attended dozens of them). I didn't learn this in seminary. I didn't learn this from listening to other preachers and teachers. I learned this after being down, down, for a very long period of time: years, even. God was not through with me. He told me so and I believed it! Please allow me to share with you in short: God brought me out as I read His Word, all night, many nights, over and over and over. And then I began to write. This had its beginning January 10, 1969. |
