A soldier from Greeneville-based Troop G suffered a serious hand injury on Monday night in a training accident at Camp Shelby, Miss. Randy Harris, the Tennessee National Guard’s public information officer, confirmed this morning that Specialist Daniel W. Reed, 40, of New Market, Tenn., was injured on Monday night. Harris said he understood that Reed was injured in an accident that involved the firing of a mortar, a weapon that fires explosive shells in a high arc. Reed is being treated at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Miss. Harris said Reed’s injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
