Dear Second Squadron Families,
Well I am at FOB Bernstein along with several key
leaders as part of our advanced detachment. We got
here Tuesday night.
Presently touring the FOB with my counterpart. I'm emailing from one of the Morale,
Welfare and Recreation (MWR) internet cafes which is
located inside a tent which is inside a concrete
aircraft hanger. Computers, TVs, telephones, personal
hygiene items are plentiful. Food is very good,
although we don't have the variety that is found at
the bigger FOBs such as Caldwell, but rest assured
that no one will ever go hungry or thirsty or without
a HOT shower (unlike the showers in Kuwait!)
All living quarters are inside the concrete hangers. I know this FOB will far exceed the expectations of every soldier. There are lots of potential projects to keep our craftsmen busy and give them a sense of pride and accomplishment when we leave as I am seeing with the guys we are relieving.
I hope everyone got to speak with Major General Hargett...he's a great person who genuinely cares about each soldier and each family and we are very lucky to have him as our Adjutant General. Everything is going on schedule and the guys back in Kuwait are busy getting everything ready for our move to Bernstein.
I'm going to be on the move for the next several days doing a lot of coordination. I hope everyone is doing well and coping as best they can during our deployment.
We will soon be settled in
here and will get into a rhythmn soon thereafter. I
just couldn't wait to let everyone know about the high
standard of living we have here at Bernstein to
hopefully relieve some anxiety about our living
conditions.
Let me know if there's anything I can do
to help any one of you.
I remain, humbly,
LTC Frank McCauley
