Hart Family Biographies

SAMUEL HART


Samuel Hart, born 10 May 1845, died 27 October 1918, was the son of Derrel J. & Rachel (Morris) Hart. Samuel married Rachel Morris about 1838 in Bedford County. Rachel was the daughter of Samuel M. & Nancy (Massey) Morris, born 18 May 1846 and eid 6 July 1938 at the home of her daughter, Mary Catherine Patterson with whom she had been living with.

Sam and Rachel were first cousins. Both were members of the Mt. Hermon Church and Sam served as deacon for many years. He left all his property to Rachel for her lifetime and then to be equally divided among his children.

Samuel and Rachel are both buried in the New Mt. Hermon Cemetery.

On September 20, 1920, his daughter Mary Cathereine (Hart) Patterson, purchased the interest of the other children in this property and so retained the 64 acre tract originally owned by Derrel J. Hart. The house in which they lived has been destroyed by fire, but the land is presently owned by thier son, Lee J. Patterson.

Mary Cathereine married Banks Mitchell Patterson on February 9, 1888 in Bedford County. They are both buried in the New Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
