Hart Family Legal Matters
John HART & Others vs BEATY26 December 1848
Bedford County TN Pg 277
John A. Webb, Ralph Stegal and wife Nancy G., John Hart and Elizabeth his wife, Thomas McCurdy and Susan his wife, Nathaniel Lane and Eliza his wife, Joseph Carpenter and his wife Sallie, William, John B., Thomas, Robert, Jesse R., and W. Stegal, minors who petitioned by their father Jesse Stegall against John and William Beaty. Petitioners stated that Bushrod Webb departed this life intestate sometime in the month of May 1847 in Bedford County. He died having land in District No. 9 of Bedford County, about 215 acres, being the tract of land on which Bushrod Webb lived, also owned a small lot of land in the Town of Middleton in the County of Rutherford, Tennessee, upon which was a cotton gin. Bushrod Webb bought it from ____McGriffin. The heirs at law of Bushrod Webb are, John A. Webb, Ralph Stegall and wife Nancy G. who was a daughter of Bushrod Webb, John Hart and wife Elizabeth Hart formerly Elizabeth Beaty, John Beaty and William Beaty, all of whom are the only children of Sally Beaty formerly Sally Webb who was a daughter of Bushrod Webb, James McCurdy and wife Susan who reside in Williamson County, Tennessee, Nathaniel Lane and wife Eliza, William Stegall, Joseph Carpenter and wife Nancy J. Carpenter, John B. Stegall, Sallie Dysart wife of Robert Dysart, Thomas, Robert, Jesse R. and Douglas Stegall, all reside in Marshall County, Tennessee and are children of Elizabeth Stegall formerly Elizabeth Webb who was a daughter of Bushrod Webb. They desire the lands to be sold. John Beaty and William Beaty are residents of the State of Georgia.
I don't know who this John Hart might have been. The only one who fits the age bracket would be John Hart s/o Jesse s/o James Hart. Except for the fact that John married Eliza Johns in Edgefield SC and we have no reason to believe he was ever in Bedford County. He died in Chambers AL in 1845.
