At 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon in the sanctuary of the Emmanuel Baptist church, Miss Zelda Marguerette House became the bride of Mr. Dean Howard Powell. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde House, 710 West First and the bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Goldie Powell and the late George Powell, Route 1.

The double-ring vows, read by Dr. G. W. Morrison, were exchanged before the altar, which was decorated with fern, palms and large baskets of pink gladioli. Two 7-branched caledabra holding tall white tapers added to the setting.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white floor-length ninon gown with hoop effect skirt. A peplum edged in Chantilly lace accented the waist line and matching lace edged the collar which outlined the sweetheart neckline. The bodice was styled with short puff sleeves. Her mitts, matching her veil of bridal illusion, were elbow length and a scalloped ruffle at the elbow matched the scallop trim of the veil. Three gardenias held the elbow length veil in place. The bride carried a white bible topped with two gardenias which were tied with white satin ribbon streamers knotted with stephanotis.

Miss Marlene House, sister of the bride, in a pink ninon gown with the 3-tiered skirt having a hoop effect, was maid of honor, Mrs. Jerry Holmes in a blue sheer formal with peplum of blue lace, was mistress of honor. Both wore gladioli corsages.

Miss Pat David, in a rose formal played the traditional wedding marches, "I Love You Truly" and "I Love Thee". Miss Bobby Vogan, wearing a blue formal, sang "Indian Love Call," "Because" and "The Lord's Prayer."

Preceding the ceremony, the candles were lighted by Miss Kay Louise Miller in peach taffeta and Miss Faye Roszell, who wore blue taffeta. They carried candles decorated with satin ribbon bows and their corsages were of gladioli.

Marilyn House, sister of the bride, and Donna Powell, sister of the groom, were flower girls. Their floor length dresses were of pink permanent finish dotted swiss. Duane House, brother of the bride, and Jonny Copeland, who were ringbearers, carried the rings on white satin pillows.

Mr. Jack Powell served his brother as best man, and Mr. Jerry Holmes was the attendant. Messrs Wayne Long, Jack Griffith and Leslie Foster were ushers.

The mother of the bride wore a wine afternoon dress with gold trim and black accessories, and the bridegroom's mother wore black with black accessories. They had matching white carnation corsages.

Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. The 3-tiered wedding cake and two crystal punch bowls were placed on a table covered with a white linen damask cloth. Gladioli and bouquets of other flowers decorated the rooms of the home. After the first piece of cake was cut by the bridal couple, Mrs. Jack Griffith served the cake and Misses Donnaretha Aduddell and Elsie Carrick the punch. Mrs. Wayne Long was in charge of the guest book. All three wore pastel colored formals and gladioli corsages.

After the reception the couple left on a wedding trip to Oklahoma City and Texas. For traveling, the bride wore a gray plaid sharkskin suit, blue blouse, black accessories and a carnation corsage. After Sept. 27, Mr. and Mrs. Powell will be at home at 705 Willow.

The bride is a graduate of Field Kindley high school with the class of '47. She attended Coffeyville college one year and was a member of Theta Chi Sigma sorority there. Mrs. Powell is employed at Newberry's and Mr. Powell who was graduated from Field Kindley high school in '46, is employed with a construction company here.

Out-of-town guests were Mrs. Bill Lichliter, Garnett, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hanson, Wichita, Miss Glorie Patch, Kansas City, and Ray Gilliland from Texas.
