Arthur Gossage
Arthur Gossage 50, son of Henry Alonzo Gossage died at 7 p.m. Thursday in a Chicago hospital where he had been under treatment for four weeks for a kidney ailment. He was a bachelor and a farmer by occupation who had always lived in the county near Eddyville.
When his illness became serious four weeks ago, his brother Cecil who is a civilian plane owner and pilot flew down to Pope county to take him to Chicago to be under the care of specialists, but they were unable to save his life.
He was a brother of Lloyd and Cecil Gossage, Mrs. Mildred Zimmers, Leslie, Harold and Lee Gossage, Chicago and Dan Gossage who is in the U.S. Navy. Another brother, Robert who served with the American Air Force was reported missing in one of the first air raids by American planes over Germany. No other word about him has been received to date by the family.
His mother died 19 years ago. He was a cousin of Mr. Ralph Burroughs of this city.
His body will arrive in Harrisburg Saturday morning and will be taken to the Gibbons funeral home to lie in state until near time for the funeral. The funeral service will be held at New Home church in Pope County Saturday at 2 p.m. The Rev. W.W. Childers of Harrisburg will conduct the service and burial will be in New Hope Cemetery.
