Died - Uncle John Coats, with paralysis, on the 9th of April, after an illness of five years. He was a devoted christian. He leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn their loss.

Weep not for those whom the veil of the tomb,
In life's evening hath hid from our eyes;

James C. D. Coats, a native of Texas County and a resident of Cabool for 13 years, died last Saturday at his home here after an illness of three weeks. Mr. Coats went to the Kansas wheat fields and worked for a while and upon his return complained of being ill but no one relized (realized) that his condition was serious until a few days before his death. The funeral services were conducted Sunday August 4 by Rev. Wintzen, beautiful floral contributions were received from the Christian Endevor Society, C. E. Davis and wife; P. S. Grant and wife, Knights and Ladies of Security, Ladies Aid Soceity, W. O. Dillon and wife, Ed Miller and wife, Lon Miller and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fredrick, the Misses Bolch and many other friends contributed flowers but didn't attach their names.

James C. D. Coats was born in Texas County near Clara, April 16, 1860, died August 2, 1919 being 59 years 3 months and 16 days of age at the time of his death. He was married to Alice M. Douglas in 1882 and professed religion and joined the Oak Hill Christian Church at about this time. He moved to Cabool in 1906 and remained one of her valued citizens until his death. Six children were born to this union, all are living except Walter, who gave his life for his country in the great war that just closed, the other children are Perry Coats of Belvidere, Kansas, Lee, Murtle, Lillie and John of this place and vicinity. Beside the children and the dear wife there are several half brothers, sisters, nieces, cousins and grandchildren to mourn his death.

Pioneer Resident Passes Away

Mary Alice, daughter of Green and Cynthia Douglas was born in Cacy (Casey?) county, Kentucky. January 1, 1867, departed this life June 25, 1939, being 72 years, five months and 25 days of age. She came with her family to Texas county in 1876. The family settled on a farm in the Lundy neighborhood where her girlhood and young womanhood days were spent.

She was married September 14, 1882 to James C. D. Coats. To this union six children were born, two of whom, with the companion, preceeded her in death. One son, Walter, made the supreme sacrifice in France during the World War, and the elder son, Perry died in 1934 in Idaho. The husband and father passed on some nineteen years ago. The family moved to Cabool in 1906 and have since made their home here, having lived in the one house for the last 27 years.

She leaves to mourn her going the four children, Lee and John Coats, Myrtle Timmerman and Mrs. Lillie Brown all of Cabool. also eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Robert Wall of Clara, Mo., besides a host of nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.

In early girlhood she was converted and united with Oak Hill Christian church. This church is still active and the building still stands on the grounds donated by her father. Soon after coming to Cabool her membership was moved here, and she has always been loyal to her church. She was a true Christian mother and wife, and a neighbor loved and respected by all.

Funeral services were conducted at the Elliott Funeral home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 by the Rev. E. F. Maness. Interment in Cabool cemetery.

Pinkney Ewing Coats, son of John Henry and Milly Coats was born near Houston, Mo., April 25, 1872, and died July 25, 1959, at Texas County Memorial Hospital at the age of 87 years and three months.

He spent the greater part of his life in Texas County, in the vicinity of Houston. During the past ten years he made extended trips to Colorado and Idaho, visiting the family and relatives.

In April, 1902, he was married to Loula Ann Smith, who preceded him in death July, 1941.

He is survived by four sons; Ray at Bucyrus; Herschel at Clara; Floyd, Meeker, Colo.; John, Los Angeles, Calif.; four daughters, Edith, Falls Church, Virginia; Edna, Twin Falls, Idaho; Maisie, Portland, Ore., and Vera May at Bucyrus. One daughter, Alice, preceded him in death in 1910. Also surviving are one brother, Milo, Meeker, Colorado; and two sisters, Mrs. Leona Williams, Rye, Colo., and Mrs. Mettie House, Rifle, Colorado; 21 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Services were conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Union Church, the Rev. Payton Smyer officiating. Burial in the Union cemetery under direction of the Evans Funeral Home of Houston.

Ray Doyle Coats, son of Pinkney and Loula Ann Coats, was born August 26, 1903 at Lundy, Mo., and died December 23, 1971 at the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston making his age 68 years, three months and 27 days.

He was united in marriage to Helen Shaffer (my note: it is Schaffer in Helen's obit so not sure which spelling) February 17, 1931 and to this union five children were born.

Survivors are his wife, Helen of the home; two sons, John Henry and Ray Doyle, Jr., both of Bucyrus; three daughters, Edith Eleanor Colborn of Cabool, Milly McKinney of Bucyrus and Betty Lou Neal of Paxton, Nebr.; three sisters, Edna Reeves of Hansen, Ida, Maisie Moore of Portland, Ore. and Vera Mae Stottlemyre of Bucyrus; three brothers, Herschel Coats, Clara, Floyd of El Mirage, Ariz., and John T. of Bucyrus and 14 grandchildren. Mr. Coats spent his entire life in Texas County where he was a farmer and carpenter by trade. As a young man his main hobby was playing baseball. Funeral services were held Friday, December 24 at the Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Payton Smyer officiating. Burial was in the Union Cemetery under the direction of the Evans-Elliott Funeral Home.

Herschel A. Coats, 92, son of Pinkney and Lou Ann Smith Coats, was born Aug. 25, 1904, near Bado in Texas County. He died Dec. 16, 1996, at Lester E. Cox Medical Center South in Springfield. (would be MO)

He married Fern Crawford Sept. 12, 1930. They had five children and lived in the Clara community. Mr. Coats was a farmer. He had donated land for the expansion of Wolford Cemetery. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray, Floyd and John Coats; and five sisters, Edith White, Alice Coats, Edna Reeves, Maisie Moore and Vera Mae Stottlemyre.

Surviving are his wife, Fern, of the home; his children, Donald and Butch of Houston. Bob of Mt. Vernon, Kenneth of Kirkwood and Carol Sue Hoover of Conway, Ark.; 13 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Services were Dec. 19 at the Clara Baptist Church with the Rev. Wesley Wallace and the Rev. Orval Gayer officiating. Burial was the the Wolford Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home of Houston.

Alice, daughter of Pink Coats, near Lundy, was burned to death when her clothing caught fire from a fireplace.

Edna Coats Reeves 83, of Twin Falls, died Dec 30, 1992 at her home. She was born Jan 23, 1909 in Texas County daughter of Pinkney and Lou Smith Coats. She attended school in White Rock, Mo., and married Roy Reeves in Denver, Co. They lived in Missouri and Texas before moving to Hansen in 1947. When Mr. Reeves retired, they moved to Twin Falls.

Survivors include three sons, Dean Coats and Bill Reeves of Kimberly and Dan Reeves of Wendell; one daughter, Barbara Perkins of Twin Falls; 16 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; one brother, Herschel Coats of Houston, Mo and one sister, Macie Moore of Portland, Or. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; one son, Richard G. of Twin Falls; three sisters and three brothers. The funeral will be Saturday at the Kimberly Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls.

Junior "Dean" Coats 65, of Kimberly, ID, Twin Falls County. died Mon, Dec. 13, 1993 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Boise, following an extended illness. He was born June 9, 1928 in Houston, Mo. the son of Edna Coats Reeves. Dean moved to Idaho in 1948, and later married Betty Orndorff in Twin Falls, They were divorced in 1974, He was employed many years in road construction industry. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was vice-president of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10328. Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Survivors include his loving companion, Freda Holler of Kimberly. Three daughters, Laura Tippets of Soda Springs (Now Twin Falls, ID) Deana Nelson (Now deceased, Born May27,1954 - Died August 24, 1998) and Marla Garrett of Twin Falls, Two sons, Edward Coats and John Coats of Twin Falls.Two brothers Bill Reeves of Kimberly and Dan Reeves of Wendell (Now lives in Twin Falls, ID) One sister, Barbara Perkins of Twin Falls, ID. Funeral was held at 2 P.M. Friday, Dec 17, 1993

Floyd Coats, 70, son of Pinkney and Lou (Smith) Coats, was born March 20, 1910 in Texas County and died June 18, 1980 in Youngtown, Ariz.

He left Texas County as a young man and moved to Meeker, Colo. for several years. He also served in the U. S. Army.

Survivors are his wife, Alice; one daughter, Chloe Correa, both of Youngtown, Ariz.; one step-daughter, Juanita Vroman; one step-son, Mitch Perry; two grandsons; two brothers, Herschel and John of Houston; two sisters, Maisie Moore of Portland, Ore. and Edna Reeves of Twin Falls, Idaho. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Ray and three sisters, Edith, Vera Mae and Alice.

Graveside services were held Saturday, June 28 with the Rev. Payton Smyer officiating at the Union Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.

(George) Hansird House, 76, died Jan 7 at his home in Rifle, Co. According to his sister Mrs. T. K. COATS of Clara. (1958) The son of John and Martha House, was a Texas County resident in the Oak Grove Community west of Simmons, until about 30 years ago.

He is survived by his wife (Mettie Carolyn Coats), of the home, two sons, Everett of Fairbanks, AK and Wayne of Mountain Home, AR; two daughters, Vivian WATKINS of Meeker, CO and Ruby (Reeves/Allen/Stout) ; and by two sisters, Mrs. COATS and Mrs. Annis HOWELL of Mountain Grove. Funeral services were in Rifle with Burial in the Meeker Cemetery.
