John J. Hart passed away at his home in Maunie Tuesday morning May 12th at the time of death being 59 years of age.
Mr. Hart was born in Pope County Illinois February 28, 1855 and had spent the greater portion of his life in White County, having lived in Maunie about sixteen years.
On June 30, 1881 he was united in marriage with Mattie Myers. Their home was blessed with eight children of which three have preceded him in death.
Left to mourn their loss are the widow and five sons; Victor of Maunie, Edgar of Pontiac, Alvin and Everett of Maunie.
He was ordained to the General Baptist Church in 1893 and lived a consistent christian life until death. He preached the gospel until his health failed about four or five years ago. He has held the office of Justice of the Peace and Police Magistrate for a number of years, being Police Magistrate at the time of his death.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday May 15th at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Church in Maunie. Elder G.W. Leathern of near Norris City will conduct the service, assisted by Elder W.H. Shook also from near Norris City. Interment will be in Kuykendall Cemetery.

The death of Victor Hart, a resident of Maunie for 50 years, shocked his many friends with its suddenness. He suffered what was believed to be a heart attack at his home Monday morning, and was rushed by ambulance to the Carmi Township Hospital where he passed away at 2:10 Tuesdáy morning at the age of 74.
Victor Hart was a lifelong resident of White county. In his younger years he worked for the L & N. Railroad and later followed the vocation of carpenter. He was a man of pleasing personality and his friends were numbered by his acquaintances. He was a member of the Maunie General Baptist Church.
He was born South of Carmi, December 23, 1886, the son of John Jones Hart and Martha Myers Hart. On December 26, 1913 he was married to Millie Blackledge who survives him, along with one son, Victor V. Hart of Rock Falls, Illinois; a daughter, Mrs. Veta Howard of Rock Falls, a granddaughter, Pat Vinson, who was reared in the Hart home; two brothers, William E. Hart of Largo, Florida and Ivan Hart of Carmi. A son, Vogle, died June 3, 1954, as the result of an automobile accident and a daughter, Velma Huff, died in 1938; a sister and four brothers also preceded him in death. Eleven grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren also survive.
The body will remain at the Kittinger Funeral Home in Carmi until Thursday afternoon at 1:00 when it will be taken to the Maunie General Baptist Church to lie in state for one hour preceding funeral services at 2:00. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10:00 Wednesday morning,
