Martin M Hart served in the Union Army, 4th TN Mounted Inf Co I. This company was made up of men from Bedford and Giles counties. Martin enlisted March 10, 1865. His captain being John Simpson, and his commanding officer Col. Blackburn. He served in the same company with Thomas J. Hart, a cousin, who was theson of James Williamson Hart.
Martin became a Baptist preacher. In the minutes of the Mt. Hermon Church, recorded in August 1890, is found the statement, "Preaching by Elder Martin Hart". Then on November 9, 1907 is found the following "... passing the following resolution; Whereas our beloved brother, Eld. M.M. Hart has had the sad misfortune of the loss of his daughter and has asked an interest in our prayers and sympathies; be it resolved that we enter into solem prayer and deep sympathy with him and his family in their sad bereavement; resolved further that we send him a copy of the above resolution and enter one on our church book." On October 10, 1908 is found the following; "Peaching by Bro. R. E. Gore, and a sermon read by J.F. Hart from Elder M.M. Hart of Illinois. Church accepted the sermon and appointed Elder J.F. Hart to write to him".
Martha Emerson Hart of Broughton, widow of Elder Martin Hart, departed to be with Jesus on August 28, 1927, having lived in this life 76 years 3 months, and 7 days.
She was born in White County, Illinois, on May 21, 1851, and was the daughter of William and Mary Emmerson. She was married May 20, 1870, (marriage records say May 12, 1869), and this union was blessed with two sons and four daughters. The daughters, Amby White, Maggie Lou, Mrs Elsie Melton, and Mattie D., all preceded her to the great beyond. Her husband also crossed to the other side eight years ago. The two sons, Henry of Macedonia, Ill., and Allen of Parmo, (Parma), Mo., survive her. She is also survived by fifteen granchildren, six great grandchildren, and two sisters, besides many other relatives and friends, who will greatly miss her because of the many good deeds of her life, and her kind disposition and friendly greeting to all. The two surviving sisters are, Mrs. Dica Oldham of Thackery, and Mrs. Maggie Burris of Carmi.
In early life, she professed faith in Christ, and united with Old Kingdom church near Carmi, and at the time she went to join the church triumphant, she was a member of the Baptist Church of Broughton.
The funeral was conducted Monday, August 29, at Broughton, by Elder Fred Hedges of Ewing, a life long friend of the deceased, after which interment took place at Hickory Hill Cemetery;

Lena M. Beaver, 93 of Girard died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at Doctors Hospital. She was born Feb. 2, 1908, in Herald, the daughter of Henry F. and Elsie
A. (Hart) Nelson. She married Emil Cornille; he preceded her in death. She later married Harley Beaver; he preceded her in death. An infant son
also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Beaver worked as a cook in the former Fiesta Restaurant in Virden.
She later worked at the dress factory in Virden and in various restaurants in the West Frankfort area for may years. She was a member of Third
Presbyterian Church.
Survivors: a son, Emil (wife) Charleen) Cornille Jr. of Metropolis; a daughter, Elsie (husband) Clarence “Smokey”) Cornille-Stoll of Girard;
nine grandchildren; 14 great-grand children; and a great-great-grand child. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Calvert and Ferry Funeral Home in Girard, the
Rev. Stephen Miller officiating, Burial: Girard Cemetery.

Mollie Dawson Hart, daughter of Elder Martin and Martha Hart was born in New Madrid MO December 19, 1886. Died at the home in Broughton Illinois September 30, 1907 Aged 20 years, nine months and 11 days.
She professed a hope in Christ at the age of 14 years and united with the Tennessee Bend Baptist Church, White county, Illinois. On removing with the family to Brougton she placed her membership with the church at that place. As a christian she was faithful in service and loyal to the cause of her Master.
She leaves a father and a mother, two brothers and a sister, two sisters having preceded her.to a better home. Funeral services by . the writer in the presence of a large congregation of sorrowing friends after which the body was conveyed to Calvary Hill cemetery and laid. to rest until those who sleep in Christ come forth to their eternal home.
