The purpose of Scott's Tennessee Battery is:
1. To aide, assist, instruct and encourage members to re-enact Civil War historical events, to educate, entertain and inspire the general public by participating in, hosting, or promoting living history demonstrations.
2. To determine the availability of, and coordinate the use of sources, financial and otherwise, for the carrying on of Civil War re-enacting and living history demonstrations.
3. To do any and all acts and things and to engage in any and all lawful activities which may be necessary, useful, or desirable for the furtherance or attainment of the above purpose.
Any person regardless of sex, age, race, natural origin, or religion may ask to be accepted as a member of this corporation. They must attend two (2) re-enactment's and be accepted by a favorable vote of the membership. Members must follow the by-laws (see Document page) and policy of the corporation and attend one event (re-enactment) each year to remain a member.
The purpose of this booklet is to provide you with a background of information about the corporation and about re-enacting. The table of contents will give you a breakdown of the booklet. New members will find this booklet an awesome list of facts and laws. However, you will find that the longer you are a member the more valuable this booklet will be. It is our "Bible".
It has taken us many years to compile the information in the booklet and it was initially published in the spring of 1986. There will be additional pages added from time to time. Please update your table of contents when this happens. This is a family organization as well as a camping group. You will make many new friends from many parts of the country all who do the same thing as we do. We call this a hobby and it really is. Only the Board of Directors of this organization have any real work. We want you to call this your hobby and the members your friends. Many of us have joined for various reasons: interested in history, black powder guns, cannons, clothing, collecting etc... We share these interests with our fellow members which gives each of us a better knowledge of the Civil War period.
It is not necessary for you to travel out of town to enjoy our hobby. Scott's Tennessee Battery attends about 15 functions each year, mostly from May to October. Several of these events are here in the Quad-Cities. We do travel at times. Don't feel that you are not a part of us if you cannot travel or attend very often. It is this flexibility that has made the membership so strong. Even the occasional member is always welcome and always treated fairly.
It is with great pride that you have been presented this booklet. I hope you find it useful and be sure to read it once in awhile. It doesn't take long to fall in love with what we do.
