Four years ago, Jan. 8, 1998, was officially the beginning of the Southern Women Webring.
Our original founder, Burke, first called the group G.R.I.T.S.. However, due to copyright issues,
the name was changed in Oct. 1998 to the Southern Women web ring. The rest is history.
During the early times, there were several women who played key roles, with active
involvement in management and in the evolution or shaping of the web ring. They had a
vision of where the ring was and expectations of where they wanted it to go. These women,
along with Burke, included: Suney, Louise (Lou), and Pam (Sweetmamapam).
There were several members who were very active on committees and were also
instrumental in expanding and promoting the web ring. Mary (Mary Bear), Betty, Diane Wilson, Jean (Aquarius),
Annette, Shazzie, Kitten, Rena, Delwyn (Bosslady), Bobbie F, Jimmie (Sunney), Cyndie Foreman, Sandy, Betsy, Jan,
Vera, Kat, Billie Holland, Sherry, Kathalise, Peggy (Sparklplenty), and Sheryl (Eternity).
Although the ring has seen a few changes in management, the central theme of the web ring has remained the same.
"We are the women of the South Land! We were born here, some of us moved here, but all
of us have Dixie in our blood. We come from all walks of life. Our common bond is our love
and heritage of the South."
Louise - 2001
This, our 4th Anniversary, is dedicated to the talented women who brought us to where we are today. We
owe them a huge debt of gratitude. We want to thank each of them and offer a salute - for a job more than very well done.
We were very lucky to have found many of the pages from the early days of our web ring. As you view these pages, keep in mind the amount
of time, energy and talent that went into the creation of each page.
PLEASE NOTE:Many of the pages you are about to view were created by previous web ring management and members.
Keep in mind that they were left just as created. Even after the web ring moved, these pages remained for posterity. We wish to thank those creators for
leaving these pages for our enjoyment and to preserve the history of the Southern Women WebRing. Enjoy!!
