Right Way

There is a way that seemth right to a man, but the end thereof is death.

C.S. Lewis once called Christianity a fighting religion. His basis for this was that Christians may acknowledge truth wherever it may be found. We may accept other religious viewpoints that agree with the Bible. However, where other views diverge from the Bible, Christians are obliged to believe that they are right and divergent views wrong.

Christians believe there is one way to God—Jesus Christ. One may choose to believe otherwise, but one may not be a Christian and believe otherwise. Who says so? Jesus Christ, Himself.

“I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh to the Father, but by me.”

“I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers…”

“Take heed that no man deceive you. For many will come in my name saying, I am Christ: and shall deceive many…”

To be a Christian is to be Christ-like. Therefore, by definition, a Christian is obliged to agree with Christ. This is especially true as it relates to His office as Savior.

What, then, will God do about the many sincere believers in other religions? I am certain He shall do as He pleases. I am equally sure He will not consult me about the arrangements. I am content to leave it at that.

Some would have us believe “all roads lead to God”. We have Jesus’ word this is not so. I do not believe a man can be wrong about God and be right with God. Such things are too high for me, but fortunately God is able to make such judgments.

Think what you will. God has given you the power to do so. He has given you the freedom to explore every avenue of belief and unbelief. He has even given you the audacity to believe you are right and the Bible wrong.

It is unfortunate that we will not be judged by our well thought out opinions as to what is right. God will judge us all. In Him there is no variance or shadow of turning. It is possible the sentence of condemnation shall come, not from God, But from the same lips that boasted such great things—ours.

“Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant… But those my enemies which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay before me.”
