3.4 Nonbiological Core Memory
2,344 dedicated modules of 188 bucky memory storage crystals provide memory storage for main core usage. Under LCARS software control, these modules provide average dynamic access to memory at 7200 kiloquads\sec. Total storage capacity of each module is about 1,000,000 kiloquads, depending on software configuration. Backup memory for main core usage consists of 1000 dedicated modules of 90 isolinear optical storage chips. Under LCARS control, these modules provide average dynamic access to stored memory at about 5100 kiloquads\sec. Total backup storage capacity of each module is about 430,000 kiloquads, depending on software configuration.
The Main Cores are tied into the ship's quantum transient data network (QTDN) by means of a series of nanofiber connections and axon-grafts, depending on core type; these also bridge the subspace boundary layer. There is a 9% Doppler loss in transmission rate across the boundary, but the resulting increase in processing speed from FTL core elements and nanocomputer core elements more than compensates.
