7.5 Navigational Deflector
Although the density of the interstellar medium isn't exactly what one would call high, significant hazards to navigation exist, especially at relativistic and warp velocities. At .3c, even a stray hydrogen atom could penetrate the hull armor.
-Hardware-
At its core, 2 sets of graviton polarity generators; 1 primary and one backup power it. Each generator consists of 12 250 MW gravity polarity sources, which feed 6 600-millicochrane subspace distortion amplifiers. The outputs of these are directed by a closely set series of subspace field coils.
The dish itself is a duratanium framework on which the actual dish mechanism is set. The array is a three-part component; First part is a molybdenum\duranium backing mesh. The second layer is composed of targanide; in other words, phaser emitter crystals. This layer is inherently an energy focusing and emission point. The third layer is another molybdenum\duranium mesh. The two mesh layers radiate the flux energy output in a precise pattern. A cryogenic cooling layer is built in to prevent premature overheating. The dish is steerable by autocomputer, by means of 6 electrofluidic servos. The dish can move up to 7.4 degrees from the ship's z-axis.
Phase-interference techniques are used to enhance the aiming. Redundancy-equipped subspace field coils just upstream of the actual dish shape the beam. The shape of the field ends up being 6 nested parabolic shields projected out to 3.4 kilometers.
The gravity-polarity generators also project a tractor field out ahead of the ship. These are new ones, similar to the IDF generators, which can sustain higher power longer.
The bridge component and Saucer sections both contain their own smaller versions of the main deflector system, to serve them when MVAM is activated; after all, in MVAM the Main Deflector serves the Lower Engineering Hull alone. These spares can also serve as a backup for the main deflector, and are even possible of projecting smaller versions of the Heavy Graviton Energy beam if the need arises.
