11.9 Quantum Torpedo Operations
Quantum torpedoes are directed against Threat force targets at distances from 15 to nearly 4,000,000 kilometers from the starship. In docked flight, targeting data is gathered from various sensor systems and processed in the main computers, then relayed through the Tactical bridge station to the torpedo launchers. The tactical situation controller manages the automated reactant handling and torpedo loading into the launcher. This dedicated section of the computer maintains updated files of actual and simulated threat-tracking algorithms, firings, and battle damage reports, as well as adaptive algorithms for new targets.
-Other Applications-
Quantum torpedoes, being general energy release devices (bombs), have found their way into many other specialized applications. Reinforced torpedo casings are able to penetrate geologic formations for deep explosive modifications in terraforming and planetary engineering projects. They are often used to divert asteroids or meteorites that have been deemed hazardous to some minor planet that can't defend itself.
