12.4 Solid Waste Recycling

Solid waste, such as good old-fashioned trash, is conveyed to processing units by means of peristaltic contraction utility conduits. Incoming solid waste is automatically scanned and classified as to type and composition. Items that can be recycled with mechanical reprocessing, such as plastics and metals, are separated. Any organic materials that have found their way here are diverted to organic processing, and hazardous materials are separated. The remaining unrecoverable material is stored for matter replication recycling.
