12.3 Waste Management
Each crewmember aboard the Camelot typically generates around 50 liters of wastewater and sewage per day. This wastewater is pumped to treatment and recycling units located in the environmental support complex. Preliminary treatment is accomplished by a series of mechanical filtration processes, such as carbon filtration, that remove solids and particulates. The residue is conveyed to the organic waste processing system for recycling. Back to the water.. Osmotic and electrolytic fractioning is then employed to remove dissolved and microscopic contaminants for recycling. The water is then superheat to 200 degrees C, under pressure to prevent conversion to steam, and passed though a focused gamma ray beam for biological sterilization before being passed through another series of filters and returned to the freshwater storage tanks for reuse.
