Day 5

After a wake-up call at 5:30am, and the receptionist asking me if i was alright, I got up. We were all getting ready for our excursion to Ephesus. The ship had ported while we slept in Turkey at the port town of Kusadasi
It's one of the wonders of the ancient world. On the way out I bought a crystal Elephant. Everyone wanted American or Canadian dollars there. I'm told Turkish Lira is virtually worthless. We came back to the port of Kusadasi and attended a display on how Turkish rugs are made, and the choice of materials, as well as their value. We were served apple tea, and many of us bought some later. It's a custom where most good shops serve you apple tea while you look at their wares. Tradition has it that it is an aphrodisiac.

We returned to the ship after some shopping. Suzie, Miguel and Maianna nearly missed the boat, but they bought a rather large white gold, diamond ring.

Lunch was fantastic. I had Red Snapper and Chilled Cream of Strawberry Soup.

I did a trivia quiz on Greek Mythology, it took me 20 minutes and I won! I did have some help from my everyone though.

We're now at the island of Patmos. We took a taxi to the two monastaries. One is the Convent and Church ofthe Apocalypse. It is where St. John had the Revelations.Further up the hill was the monastery. It was beautiful. The main part of the church was done in Baroque Roccocco style. Usually out of my taste, but it looked beautiful this time. We took a taxi back down the hill and did a little shopping. We ate gyros, we didn't need to, but we were glad we did, they were delicious.

After dinner, back on the ship, there was a Greek Show, featuring Greek dance and music. It was followed by the disco. I danced the entire time, even with some of the ships dancers at one point. Although I get to sleep in tomorrow, it's late and I am waking everyone up for the excursion tomorrow to Rhodes.
