"Henry, Stanley and the Hillercopter" by Bob Leone


Having heard of the meteoric progress of the Berkeley lad through his military sources; Henry J. Kaiser came down to Berkeley to check the "Hiller-copter" for himself. Millionaire business man Henry J. Kaiser and his brilliant chief engineer, Clay P. Bedford, crawled into the cockpit of the "Hiller-copter" and learned for themselves how easy it was to fly. Kaiser was ready to talk business. Later, in the rented garage which the "Hiller-copter" was constructed, Kaiser made Hiller an offer to which the young inventor readily agreed. Kaiser and Bedford encouraged and advised young Stanley and he soon installed a 125-horsepowered Lycoming engine thereby increasing its performance.

And so at the age of nineteen, Stanley Hiller had a Kaiser contract and a bright future in aviation.
