Opening the Drawing Toolbar

Many times when working with clipart you are going to want to have the drawing toolbar open.  To do this:

  1. Open the View menu, move to Toolbars, and click on Drawing.
  2. The Drawing Toolbar should now be on your screen.  You can click and drag it to whatever location you want.

Finding Pictures on the Internet

  1. Open Internet Explorer from your Start Menu.
  2. Search for a picture you may want.  I usually use the Image search on Google.co.uk for this.
  3. When you have found a picture you want you can Right-Click on it on then choose the Save Picture as option.
  4. Type in a name for your picture and click on the file you wish to save it too.
  5. Don't waste time looking for the perfect picture.  It is only important that you have a picture to work with.

Opening the Drawing Toolbar

Many times when working with clipart you are going to want to have the drawing toolbar open.  To do this:

  1. Open the View menu, move to Toolbars, and click on Drawing.
  2. The Drawing Toolbar should now be on your screen.  You can click and drag it to whatever location you want.

Insert A Picture From the Clip Art Gallery

  1. Place the cursor where you want your clip art.
  2. Click the Insert Clip Art Icon on the Drawing Toolbar,  or click the Insert drop down menu, move the cursor to picture, then click Clip Art.
  3. Search the catalogue of clip art pictures and choose the picture you want.
  4. Click on the picture and when prompted click on Insert Clip.

Note   You can also drag a picture or other clip from the Clip Gallery to your document.

Insert A Picture Saved On File

  1. Click where you want to insert the picture.

  2. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File.

  3. Locate the picture you want to insert.

  4. Double-click the picture you want to insert.

Resizing Your Image

The most common change you will want to make to your picture is changing the size.  To do this:

  1. Make sure the Sizing Handles are visible.  The sizing handles are small squares that you can see on the edges and the corners of your picture.  If you can not see them just click on the picture.

  2. Click hold and drag the sizing handle until your picture is the right size.

Cropping Your Image

To crop a picture means to cut portions of it off.  To crop a picture in word follow the next steps:

  1. Make sure your Drawing Toolbar is open.

  2. Choose the Crop icon from the Drawing Toolbar.              

  3. Place the crop tool over one of the resizing handles.                                   

  4. Click, hold, drag the crop tool until you have cut the required portion from you picture.                                                                                                                               

  5. Release the mouse button.

*There are far to many options to discuss about editing pictures.  It will be up to you to play around with your images and the picture toolbar in order to see all of the things you can do.

Wrapping Text Around an Image

Most times when you are working with a word file you will have text and images on the same page.  In these cases you may want the text to wrap around the image .  The are several options available to you.  To access these options follow these steps:

  1. Make sure the image is selected (you will see the sizing handles around the image).
  2. Right-click on the image and select Format Picture or Format AutoShape from the menu.
  3. Select the Layout Tab from the pop up window.
  4. Select the text wrapping layout you wish.

  1. Try several styles to see which suits you best.

Moving Your Image

If you want to move your image follow these instructions:

  1. Click on the image to be moved.                                                                                    

  2. Click hold and drag the image.                                                                             

  3. Release the mouse button.

Adding Text To Your Image

If you want to add text to your image do this:

  1. Open the drawing toolbar.

  2. Click on the Text Box Icon on the drawing toolbar.

  3. Click hold and drag a text box onto your image.                    

  4. Type your text in your text box.                                                 

  5. Right click on the text box border and select Format Text Box.

  6. Select the Colours and Lines Tab and move the transparency bar to 100%.

  7. If you want to remove the text box border select the Colour Menu and click on No Line.
