My father, Louis (Lewis) Catzel was born in Johannesburg on 20th March 1911 and passed away on the 3rd day of Pesach, Motzei Shabbat, 1999 at the age of 88. He was the 5th child to be born to my grandparents, who lost the first two girls in a flu epidemic in Latvia in about 1905.

In 1998 we visited South Africa in honour of my parents' 60th wedding anniversary. They had not seen my children for about 14 years.

Below is a picture taken in the gardens of the Old Aged Home of proud and happy Saba (grandfather) Louis with my daughters Anat (left) and Edya (right).

He was a devoted husband to my mother which was especially seen all the years that she has been an invalid. He visited her daily in the Home, brought her special treats and in every way looked after her interests. His passing was specially a very great loss to her.

Below - the last photo of my father - taken a few days before he passed away.
